In 2026 the easiest way to launch a podcast is as a video livestream: you go live on Twitch, YouTube or VK Video Live, cut the recording into clips and Shorts, and send the audio version to Yandex Music and VK Podcasts via RSS. To start as a duo you need two dynamic microphones, a recorder or an interface with two to four inputs, one camera and closed-back headphones for everyone. Why a podcast works better live
An audio podcast grows slowly, while on a livestream viewers ask the guest questions right away and argue with the hosts. A single two-hour stream gives you three products at once: the recording of the broadcast, 10-20 short clips and an audio episode for podcast platforms. Each of them brings people to the others.

On Twitch, talk shows live in two categories. Talk Shows & Podcasts fits if you have a proper episode with a topic, hosts and a guest: competition there is lower and you are easier to notice. Just Chatting is the most-watched category on the platform, but also the most crowded, and a new channel gets lost among thousands of streams. A sensible order: start in Talk Shows & Podcasts, and move to Just Chatting only for loose streams without a clear topic.

For a Russian-language podcast it pays to stream to two platforms at once: VK Video Live for viewers from Russia, and Twitch or YouTube for everyone else.
A setup for two to four people
Microphones
The main rule of podcasting: one microphone per person. A single microphone in the middle of the table records the room, not the voices. For several people in one room, take dynamic XLR microphones, for example the Shure SM7B or RØDE PodMic. They pick up little of what sounds off to the side, so your neighbor's voice barely gets into your channel. Condenser microphones in an ordinary room catch the echo and everyone around.
Mount the microphone on a boom arm or a stand a palm's width from your mouth and do not touch it with your hands during the stream.
An interface or a podcast console
USB microphones on one computer do not get along well, so for two or more voices you need an audio interface or a console with several inputs:

Record each voice onto its own track. In OBS, separate tracks are enabled in the advanced output mode: assign each audio source its own track, and choose the MKV format for recording, which will not ruin the file if the computer suddenly shuts down.
Cameras and lighting
For two people one camera with a wide shot is enough. For three or four you need a wide shot and at least one more close-up camera so you can switch to whoever is speaking. And closed-back headphones for everyone, otherwise the guest's voice from the speakers will come back into the microphones as an echo.

VDO.Ninja is the best fit for a live show. The guest opens an invitation link in the browser, you drag the viewing link into OBS, and the program creates a browser source of the right size by itself. Latency is usually under 200 ms. If you have several guests, create a room in director mode: each participant can be output as a separate source.
Zoom helps when a guest is not ready to figure out new services. In the local recording settings, turn on saving a separate audio file for each participant, and ask the guest to enable Original Sound. Bring the Zoom window into OBS with window capture.
Choose Riverside if the podcast is first of all recorded rather than streamed. Keep in mind that Riverside and Zoom accept payment in dollars, and a Russian card usually does not work for that.
How to cut a stream into clips and Shorts
Short videos bring in new viewers better than the stream itself. The scheme is simple:
- Mark moments right during the stream. Ask a moderator or viewers to make clips on Twitch when something striking is said. A clip lasts from 5 to 60 seconds and is a ready draft for a short video.
- Turn on the vertical format. Since June 2026 Twitch has Dual Format for all streamers: the platform saves both a horizontal and a vertical version of clips and recordings. For a podcast with several cameras, set up a vertical layout where the speaker is shown large.
- Cut by meaning, not by a timer. The first two seconds must hook: start with the strongest phrase, not with a greeting.
- Add subtitles. Large text keeps people who scroll the feed without sound and helps them get the joke from the first second.
- Publish to Shorts and VK Clips. A vertical or square video up to 3 minutes on YouTube counts as Shorts. If a Short longer than a minute contains someone else's music with a Content ID claim, YouTube will block the video worldwide. So use no background tracks, or only music from the YouTube audio library.
On YouTube, a playlist of episodes becomes a podcast in YouTube Studio: Content, Playlists, Settings, Add podcast features. Put only full episodes into the podcast playlist and do not add clips to it.
The audio version: where to send the sound
For an episode to reach podcast platforms you need an RSS feed: a permanent address from which platforms pick up new episodes on their own. The feed is provided by podcast hosting. A free option for a creator from Russia is VK: in a community with podcasts enabled you can turn on RSS export and get a feed link for other services.

Yandex Music
Requirements from Yandex's help center: spoken-word content (DJ sets and mixes do not qualify), the formats MP3, MP4, MOV, M4A, M4V, AAC or FLAC, a bitrate of at least 40 kbps, and 192 kbps or more recommended. You must hold the rights to all music and jingles in the episode. The application is reviewed within a few business days, and a rejection is reported by email. After approval new episodes are pulled from the feed automatically.
VK Podcasts
A podcast on VKontakte is connected to a community whose topic matches the topic of the show. The application needs links to finished episodes, and moderators check the sound quality. After approval a Podcasts section appears in the community, and episodes are listened to in VK Music. Episodes can be uploaded manually from a computer or pulled in by RSS import from another host.
Monetization
Twitch has not paid creators from Russia since spring 2022, and you cannot currently apply to the YouTube partner program from Russia. So income is built on services that work with Russian cards:
- Donations during the stream. DonationAlerts shows the message and the donation amount right on screen, with a 12% fee. For a podcast, donations with a question for the guest work well: the viewer pays so that their question is heard on air.

- Platforms. VK Video Live has paid subscriptions and the VK Video partner program: to join you need 1000 subscribers, 30,000 minutes watched in 90 days and three videos longer than three minutes.
- Sponsorship. A podcast with a narrow topic interests advertisers even with a small audience: what matters is not the online count but who exactly is listening. Since September 1, 2022 online advertising in Russia must carry a label and an erid identifier, and for unlabeled advertising individuals face a fine of 10 to 100 thousand rubles. Before the stream, agree with the advertiser who gets the erid and submits the placement data.
A sponsor needs numbers: average online, views of the recording and clips, listens of the audio version. A stream with an empty chat convinces neither an advertiser nor a random viewer. To get through this stage faster, you can support your first streams with viewers through the online control panel or add views to recordings and Shorts through the YouTube services. This helps an episode get into recommendations, but only an interesting conversation keeps people.
Common mistakes
- One microphone for everyone. The voices sound distant, and the echo of the room cannot be removed by any noise reduction.
- No episode plan. Without a topic the conversation quickly sags. Keep 5-7 questions and a rough timing in front of you.
- Irregularity. A podcast that comes out whenever it happens to is forgotten by listeners. One episode a week on a schedule beats three in a row and a month of silence.
- Betting only on Twitch or YouTube. Twitch does not pay out money to creators from Russia, and the YouTube partner program is closed to new Russian channels, so VK Video Live and Russian donation services are needed from the very first episode.
