Boost Instagram Likes
In 2026, likes aren't the main metric, but they are an important signal. Instagram algorithms still consider them for ranking. A post with 500 likes will be shown to more people than a post with 50, all else being equal.
Additionally, likes act as social proof. A new user visits a profile, sees that posts are actively liked — and subconsciously trusts it more.
But simply asking to "like this post" no longer works. Users are tired. Other mechanics are needed.
This article presents 12 methods to increase the number of likes. From content strategies to technical and (carefully) service-related ones. No promises of "a million in an hour," only working strategies for 2026.
What has changed in likes over recent years
Instagram experimented with hiding likes for a long time. In 2024–2025, this practice faded out. Now, likes are again visible in almost all regions. But their weight in the algorithm has changed.
Before: more likes → higher in the feed.
Now: high percentage of likes from reach + watch time + saves + shares. Only a combination provides growth.
This means that simply "boosting likes" without engagement is useless and even harmful. The algorithm sees a discrepancy: there are likes, but no saves or watch time. The account enters a risk zone.
12 methods to increase likes on Instagram
Method 1. Hook in the first 3 seconds
For Reels and videos, this is rule number one. The first 3 seconds decide whether the user stops or scrolls away. If they scroll, there will be no like.
Examples of effective hooks. A question that cannot be ignored: "Are you also making this mistake?". A vivid action: "Now I'll show you what you're doing wrong." Emotion: surprise, laughter, shock. A number: "5 methods bloggers don't talk about."
Important: the hook must match the content. Promising one thing and showing another leads to complaints and a loss of trust.
Method 2. Question in the caption or on the video
The simplest way to get likes and comments is to ask a question. The human brain is wired to want to answer questions.
Effective phrases. "Have you encountered such a situation?", "Which method do you use?", "Guess what happens next?", "Agree? Put a + in the comments."
The question should be easy. Don't demand a detailed essay. A like is the quickest response.
Method 3. Savable value
People like what they want to save. Checklists, guides, tool selections, lists of errors, tables, step-by-step instructions. The user thinks: "This is useful, I'll save it. And like it too - thanks to the author."
Formats for this method. A carousel of 6–10 slides. Reels with text overlays. A collection post with bold headings.
Method 4. Likes in response to comments
The mechanic is simple: you promise to like a comment in return. For example: "Write your main problem on this topic. I will like every comment in return."
Why it works. The person receives an immediate reward for the action. You increase activity in the comments, which boosts the post in the algorithm. Likes from you are pleasant to subscribers; they remember the account.
Important: fulfill your promise. If you promised to like, like everyone who commented.
Method 5. Intrigue and incompleteness
People don't like it when a story abruptly ends. Use this. In Reels, say: "Continuation in the next video—subscribe so you don't miss it." Or on the last slide of a carousel: "The most important thing is next week."
Incompleteness encourages subscriptions and likes to keep track of the account.
Method 6. Humor and emotions
In 2026, algorithms value emotions. A funny Reel will gather more likes than a perfectly crafted but boring instructional video. Don't be afraid to use humor if it's appropriate for your niche.
But an important limitation: humor should not be toxic, offensive, or built on someone else's misfortune. Instagram penalizes this and hides reach.
Method 7. Honest like exchange with other accounts
Find 5–10 accounts of your size in related niches. Arrange for mutual likes: you like their new posts, they like yours. Not massively, but honestly.
This does not violate rules if done manually and without automation. The likes are live, the accounts are real. The algorithm sees natural activity.
Method 8. Contests with the condition "like the post"
Instagram does not prohibit contests with likes as an entry condition. Only mass calls to "tag friends" are prohibited.
Safe contest format. Conditions: subscribe to the account, like this post, write a comment (e.g., answer a question). The winner is chosen by a randomizer. The prize is something valuable to your audience.
Likes in such a contest grow instantly. But it's important: contests shouldn't be every week. Otherwise, the audience gets used to it and participates only for the prize, without becoming loyal.
Method 9. Trending sounds in Reels
Music and sounds are a separate algorithm. Use trending sounds from the "Edit Reels" → "Trending" tab. If a sound is gaining popularity, your videos using it receive additional views.
More views → more likes. Simple arithmetic.
Method 10. Publication time
Even a perfect post published at 3 am will not get likes. Publish when your audience is active. This time can be viewed in the Instagram professional dashboard: Insights → Your Audience → Active Times.
If your followers are active at 7 PM, publish at 6:30–7:00 PM. If at 9 AM, publish at 8:30 AM. The algorithm needs time to boost the post.
Method 11. Like map in Stories
Ask subscribers in Stories: "Like this post — in 24 hours I'll show a screenshot of the most active ones." Or "Whoever likes it — I'll tag them in Stories with gratitude."
