How to Sell Ads on Your Stream

Let's move beyond "hire me cheap."

When you hear the word "advertising," what comes to mind? Probably shame. Awkwardness. The feeling that you're a beggar who distracts viewers from the game for some questionable money.

This feeling is your main enemy. And it's based on a mistake.

You're not a beggar. You're an attention owner. Every hour of your stream is an hour when 10, 20, or 30 people are watching you specifically. They trust your taste, laugh at your jokes, and keep coming back to you. This is a resource. And this resource has a price.

Advertising isn't about selling your soul for 500 rubles. It's about connecting a good product with people who need it. And getting a fair payment for it.

Let's debunk some myths.

Who are we even talking about? Who would buy ads from someone with 20 viewers?

None of the big brands. And thank goodness. They're difficult to work with: contracts, reports, revisions, waiting 60 days for payment. You don't need that.

Your advertisers are small entrepreneurs just like you. They have a product, but no voice.

Here's who they really are:

An indie game developer. He spent a year making a game. Wrote code, drew pixels, recorded sounds. And now he's sitting there looking at 12 reviews on Steam. He needs someone to just show the game in action. Not a 40-minute review, but a live stream where you can see the character running, shooting, or building a house.

A merch workshop. A guy prints T-shirts with designs based on your favorite game. He doesn't have money for advertising with top bloggers. But he'll find 1000 rubles for a mention in your stream.

A course creator. A girl teaches English for gamers. Her students are those who are tired of boring textbooks. Your audience is perfect clients. She'll pay you a percentage of every sale.

A local tech store. Sells inexpensive mice, mats, headphones. They don't need the whole world. They need 20 people in your city who will see the ad and visit them.

These are your people. They won't say "you have few viewers." They'll say "finally a normal channel, not some faceless public page."

How to take the first step when you have a lump in your throat

You're afraid to write to an advertiser. Afraid they'll refuse. Afraid they'll laugh. Afraid you don't know how to "sell."

Good news: you don't need to sell. You need to offer a partnership.

Here's a phrase that will break the ice:

"Hello! My name is [name]. I'm a streamer, I have a small but lively audience - about 20 people live. I think your product might be of interest to them. Shall we try something together? I'll show it on air, and you'll pay what you deem fair if there are sales."

See? No word "advertising." No word "price." There's "let's try." This relieves the pressure. You're not demanding, you're inviting.

Of course, next time you'll name a price. But for the first time, this approach works best.

How to talk about ads on air so no one leaves

The scariest moment for a streamer is when they have to say "and now, an ad." It seems like the chat will creak, viewers will vanish, and you'll be standing there red-faced.

This won't happen if you follow one rule: advertising should be a story, not an announcement.

Bad: "Friends, an ad. A dinosaur mug, 500 rubles, here's the link."

Good: "Guys, yesterday I was drinking tea and realized my old mug was cracked. Ordered a new one, with a dinosaur. Didn't expect it, but it's really cool – keeps heat, doesn't slip. By the way, they have a discount right now with code MYSTREAM. If anyone needs one – the link is under the stream. Alright, enough about mugs, let's move on."

The difference is that you're not selling a mug. You're sharing an experience. And the viewer feels: "Oh, we have similar problems. So the mug will suit me too."

Another important rule: the ad should be short. 30-40 seconds. A minute at most. If you talk longer, you lose viewers. They came for the game, not a lecture.

How much money can you get (figures, not dreams)

Let's skip the "earn a million sitting on your couch" part.

Average online audience of 15 viewers. One ad integration in a stream (1-2 minutes) - 500-1000 rubles. Two integrations in a stream - 1000-2000 rubles. Three streams a week - 3000-6000 rubles a week. 12,000-24,000 rubles a month.

This won't replace an office salary. But it will cover internet, a new microphone, game subscriptions. And this is just the beginning.

Once you get the hang of it, gather a portfolio of 5-10 successful integrations, the price will increase. With 30 viewers - 1500-2500 per integration. With 50 - 3000-5000.

And most importantly: advertising is scalable. Donations are a lottery. Subscriptions are a whim. But advertising is predictable income if you learn how to negotiate.

The mistake that kills all chances of a repeat order

You ran an ad. The advertiser paid. Everyone's happy. A month later, they don't return. Why?

Because you didn't show them the result.

An advertiser isn't a psychic. They don't know if anything was bought after your stream if you don't tell them. Even if there were no sales, they should know: "Hey, nobody bought, but 40 people clicked the link, 5 added to cart. Maybe next time we'll try a different format?"

Rule: after each integration, send the advertiser a report. A screenshot of click statistics, a chat screenshot (someone wrote "oh, cool thing"), a short summary. This will take 5 minutes. But the advertiser will remember you as a professional. And will return.

What to do when you're rejected (and this will happen 7 out of 10 times)

Rejection is not a catastrophe. Rejection is information.

You were rejected because:

the advertiser doesn't have a budget (their problem, not yours);
they didn't understand the format (you explained it poorly – work on your script);
they're already working with another streamer (you just had bad timing).

No rejection means "you're a bad streamer." Not one.

Therefore, your task is to get a lot of rejections. The more rejections, the higher the chance of a "yes." Because it's a numbers game.

The 10-a-day rule: every day, write to 10 potential advertisers. That's 300 a month. Of those, 30 will reply. Of those, 5-10 will agree. That's already 5-10 integrations a month. At a price of 500 rubles - 2500-5000 rubles. Just for writing messages, not being afraid.

Conclusion: advertising is not shameful, it's mature

The biggest barrier for a beginner isn't a lack of advertisers. And not the difficulty of negotiations. The biggest barrier is the feeling that you don't have the right to charge money for your influence.

This feeling is wrong.

You go live. You entertain people. You give them emotions. You spend time, nerves, health. Do you have the right to get money for this from those who need your audience? Yes. You do. Without a shadow of a doubt.

Don't sell yourself cheap. Don't apologize for ads. Don't be afraid of rejections.

Just start. Write one message today. Then a second. Then a tenth. In a month, look back and realize that the fear was funny, and the money was real.
