Rutube, Premier, Yappy Unite
"Gazprom-Media Holding" is completing a large-scale integration of its three digital assets: video hosting Rutube, online cinema Premier, and short vertical video service Yappy. According to Alexander Zharov, CEO of the holding, the final stages of technical and legal unification will be completed by the end of 2026. What is this new ecosystem and what opportunities does it open for content creators? Let's find out.
In Brief: Who, What, When
The strategic decision to merge the three platforms was made back in 2024. By 2025, the technical base had already become unified: data storage, video processing, moderation, and recommendation systems operate on a single engine.
- Yappy is completely transforming into Rutube Shorts. The Yappy brand is becoming history, and its technologies and developments are moving to the short vertical video section on Rutube.
- Premier – an online cinema with series and films – is gradually integrating into the ecosystem. Full integration will be completed by the end of 2026.
- Rutube is becoming the central platform that will accumulate all traffic and direct users to the desired content – be it a short video by a blogger or a full-length film.
"We have already reduced the development team, now we have one player, one recommendation system. We have now entered the stage of 'combat' unification of platforms," Alexander Zharov stated at the "Media Business" conference in October 2025.
What changed in 2026: key integration stages
The unification process is proceeding in stages. Here's what has already happened and what will happen in the near future.
Unified technical platform (completed)
By the end of 2025, all three services began operating on a unified technological base. This means that Rutube and Shorts (formerly Yappy) have one player, one video storage and processing system, one moderation, and unified recommendation algorithms. For a blogger, this means that content uploaded to Rutube can automatically appear in the short video feed, and vice versa.
Renaming Yappy to Rutube Shorts (completed)
Since the end of 2025, the Yappy app has officially been called Rutube Shorts. The technologies, developments, and, most importantly, the promotion algorithms for short videos have completely moved under Rutube's wing. Danila Ovcharov, Executive Director of Rutube and CEO of Yappy, noted that the Yappy team has worked closely with vertical formats for several years, and now all this experience has been transferred to Rutube.
Unified subscription system (actively being implemented)
Users can already subscribe to a single subscription that provides access to premium Premier content and disables ads on Rutube. The cost of such a subscription is 399 rubles per month. Later, multi-level tariffs may appear, similar to Kinopoisk.
Legal unification (to be completed in 2026)
According to Alexander Zharov, the legal unification of the companies will be completed in the first quarter of 2026. In fact, Yappy and Premier will cease to exist as separate legal entities and will become part of Rutube's unified legal framework.
What it means for bloggers: 4 key changes
For content creators, integration opens up several important opportunities. Here are the key changes to consider.
1. Cross-posting and audience expansion – with one click
Previously, to upload videos to both Rutube and Yappy, you had to do it separately. Now, you can publish shorts simultaneously on both platforms with literally one button. Rutube's audience is 80 million people per month, the Shorts audience is several million more active young users. A blogger gains access to this entire base without additional effort.
2. New content formats and seamless transitions between them
The most interesting feature of the merger is the seamless transition between formats. As Sergey Kosinsky explained, "if a user watches a short video, they can 'dive' into a series and continue watching it." For a blogger, this means that a short video can become a "door" to long-form content. For example, you shot a 30-second teaser of a movie review, and an interested viewer can immediately go to the full version of the review or even to the movie itself on Premier.
3. Unified recommendation algorithms – more chances for virality
Rutube and Shorts recommendation systems now work based on common data. This means that algorithms trained on millions of Yappy users help promote content on both the main platform and vice versa. Danila Ovcharov emphasized that in shorts, you need to hook the viewer in the first 2-5 seconds. "Young people live in multitasking mode: everything is fast, bright, in rhythm. Such formats fit perfectly into their daily lives," he noted.
4. Clear monetization and partnership model
Rutube does not try to buy off bloggers for any money, but offers a partnership model. The platform expands the author's audience through integration with Shorts and Premier, and the blogger receives additional income from advertising monetization and increases their attractiveness for personal advertising integrations. This is a systemic approach that benefits everyone.
What to know: risks not mentioned in press releases
The unification of platforms is a complex process, and it has a downside. Here's what to remember so you don't get into trouble.
Monetization of short content is not yet entirely clear
Currently, in Rutube Shorts, payouts for views are not as high as in long videos. Although the volume of published short videos has doubled, many authors complain that shorts monetization remains a "dark horse." You need to keep an eye on updates: it is likely that new support programs for short content authors will appear in 2026.
