Reeflay tragedy: streamer Valya

It was a night that shocked the Russian-speaking internet. On December 2, 2020, thousands of viewers watched live as blogger Stanislav Reshetnikov (Reeflay) discovered his girlfriend Valentina dead. The broadcast lasted for almost two hours without interruption - from attempts at resuscitation to the arrival of an ambulance and the police.

This tragedy became a dark page in the history of streaming, a turning point for the trash content industry, and ended with a real prison sentence for the blogger. What exactly happened that night, why the girl was outside in the cold in her underwear, and where Reeflay is now - in this material.

Who is Reeflay

Stanislav Reshetnikov (also spelled Reshetnyak in the media) was known by the nickname Reeflay. He earned a living by organizing online gaming streams and so-called “drinking party broadcasts.” Sometimes even the most outrageous viewer requests were fulfilled on air, and with the money earned, he rented accommodation and organized parties.

Stan met Valentina Grigorieva at one of these parties. At the time of the tragedy, he had known her for about a year.

Who is Valya (Valentina Grigorieva)

The deceased was about 30 years old and a native of the Krasnodar Territory. Friends called her Valentina Genialnaya.

Valentina's life was not easy. She grew up without parents - she was raised by her retired grandmother and her tram driver mother. Both died shortly before she moved to Moscow, literally in her arms.

After her mother's death, Valya moved to the capital. She dreamed of breaking into show business, but then started earning money through escort services, which she did not hide from anyone.

Friends said that an ambulance often visited the blogger's house. "In my memory, Valya was resuscitated four times already. She took pills, then alcohol, and her heart would get bad," a friend of the deceased recalled.

According to some reports, Valya was pregnant at the time of her death. In one of Stan's streams, she showed a rounded belly, but admitted that she would not be able to keep the child due to health problems. However, other sources claim that the information about the pregnancy was not confirmed.

Chronology of the tragedy: what happened on the night of December 2, 2020

Beginning of the broadcast and conflict

On the night of December 1-2, 2020, Stanislav Reshetnikov was conducting another stream from his apartment in the Ramensky district of the Moscow region. Drunk, he argued with Valentina, who was also on camera.

The dispute escalated into a fight. According to the investigation, the blogger inflicted several blows on the girl - experts found a closed head injury, multiple bruises, and a subdural hematoma, which formed after at least three blows to the face, on the deceased.

Expulsion into the cold

After the beating, Reshetnikov kicked Valya out onto the street in only her underwear. It was winter - a December morning in the Moscow region greeted the girl with sub-zero temperatures.

During the interrogation, the blogger gave a different version. He stated that the girl suffered from an intestinal disease, which caused her to smell bad, so he kicked her out onto the balcony. However, other sources clarify that she was expelled specifically onto the street.

The girl begged to be let back in, but the blogger continued to communicate with his subscribers.

Death and an hour and a half of inaction

When Reshetnikov finally decided to let his girlfriend back in, she was already dead.

"Honey, are you alive or not? Breathe, Valya!" Stanislav pleaded.

The blogger unsuccessfully tried to resuscitate the girl, dragging her body around the apartment, thinking she was unconscious. For about 20 minutes, he tried to find a way to call an ambulance - his phone was broken - and eventually went to his neighbors for help.

Meanwhile, the stream continued all this time. For more than two hours, Reshetnikov communicated with his subscribers online with the deceased girl lying in the apartment.

The paramedic immediately declared Valentina dead.

"Is she really dead? Are you sure? Absolutely?" the drunk Reshetnikov could not believe it.

Detention

The arriving doctors could not get a clear explanation from the blogger about who the girl was; he also didn't know her last name or age. According to him, Valya was a prostitute and was about 26 years old.

After the medics, police officers arrived at Reshetnikov's apartment, after which the live broadcast finally stopped. The stream ended only after the police forced him not just to turn the camera away, but to turn it off.

Reaction of viewers and the public

Many users who followed the stream initially did not believe what had happened, considering it a staged event. However, the longer the broadcast went on, the less doubt remained that the girl had indeed died.

The tragedy caused widespread public outcry. It became a symbol of how low trash-streaming can sink in pursuit of money and hype.

Version of death: what the examination showed

Initially, Reshetnikov himself named his version of the cause of his girlfriend's death - "overdose, it seems." He also stated that he did not use drugs himself.

However, the forensic medical examination yielded different results. Traces of narcotic substances, presumably amphetamine, were found in the girl's blood.

But the main cause of death was not intoxication. According to the pathologist's conclusion, Valentina Grigorieva died as a result of a closed head injury, hemorrhage into the soft tissues of the head, bilateral subdural hematoma, and subarachnoid hemorrhage of the brain.

The blogger's defense insisted that all this was not related to beatings or being in the cold, and that the hemorrhage could have happened from "pills, alcohol, or a stroke." But the court sided with the prosecution.

Trial and verdict: 6 years in a high-security penal colony

A criminal case was initiated under Part 4 of Article 111 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation ("Intentional infliction of grievous bodily harm, resulting in the death of the victim through negligence").
