Enter your upload speed from a speed test and pick a platform. The calculator suggests a resolution, frame rate and bitrate for OBS so your stream runs without lag or dropped frames.
For OBS: CBR rate control, 2 s keyframe interval, H.264 codec. Headroom is 25% of your upload.
Everything is calculated in your browser: nothing you enter is sent anywhere.
Streaming uses your upload, not your download speed. Connection speed fluctuates, so give the stream no more than 70–75% of your upload and keep the rest as headroom for dips, the game and calls. The calculator takes 75%, subtracts 160 kbps for audio and picks the highest tier that fits both the remainder and the platform limit. If smoothness matters more, it prefers 60 fps; if sharpness does, a higher resolution.
The numbers come from the platforms' own help pages. Twitch recommends 6,000 kbps for 1080p60 and 4,500 for 720p60 and 1080p30 (Partners and Affiliates also have Enhanced Broadcasting with 2K, which is not covered here). Kick accepts up to 8,000 kbps, 1080p and 60 fps, H.264 and CBR only. YouTube gives minimum-to-recommended ranges up to 4K. For VK Video Live the ranges come from VK help; no hard cap is published, so the upper values are a guideline. Everyone recommends a 2-second keyframe interval and constant bitrate (CBR).
Go by your upload speed and the platform limit: give the stream no more than 70–75% of your upload. With 10 Mbps upload that is about 7.5 Mbps, enough for 1080p60 on Twitch at its 6,000 kbps. Enter your speed and the calculator picks numbers for your platform.
Twitch recommends 6,000 kbps for 1080p60 and advises not to go higher. With 25% headroom that needs roughly 8.5 Mbps of upload. With less, 720p60 at 4,500 kbps is the better choice.
Run speedtest.net or a similar test and take the Upload number. Test from the same computer and connection you stream from, ideally over a cable: Wi-Fi is usually slower and less stable.
For fast games 720p60 is usually better: motion is smoother and the bitrate is the same as for 1080p30. For just chatting, IRL and slow games where fine detail matters, 1080p30 works well. In the calculator this is the "What matters more" switch.
