VJLink: Hate as a Career?
In a world where YouTube and Twitch have become not just platforms for entertainment, but arenas for the wildest manifestations of human nature, one name stands at the origin of an entire genre. Kirill Zyryanov, known as VJLink (or simply Vzhlink), is the man many call the creator and popularizer of trash streams as we know them today.
This is not a loud exaggeration. Before VJLink, streamers played games, chatted with viewers, and occasionally pulled pranks. After VJLink, a flood of content poured onto the internet where the boundaries of what was permissible blurred live – fights, humiliations, alcohol, scandals. And all of this – for the viewers' money.
At the same time, Zyryanov himself, in interviews, called trash streams a "low genre" and claimed that he never stooped to such a level. A paradox? Or part of an image? Kirill is a controversial figure: a disabled person since childhood and an aggressive blogger, a supporter of the law and a participant in scandals. But in one thing he certainly succeeded: he turned hype and hatred into a profitable and sustainable career.
Who is VJLink: from gamer to scandalous legend
Real name and early years
Kirill Khamidovich Zyryanov was born on September 9, 1994, in Perm. When he was 6 years old, the family moved to Krasnoznamensk, Moscow region, where he still lives.
Kirill's childhood was difficult. His father left the family when his son was very young. The boy was mainly raised by his mother and grandmother. Later, his mother remarried, and Kirill gained a younger sister, Maria.
At the age of one and a half, a tragedy befell his sister - the stroller with the girl overturned into a ditch. Maria was saved, but the brain damage was irreversible - she remained disabled for life and died in 2019.
This tragedy, according to Kirill himself, greatly influenced his life. His parents' attention shifted to the sick child. The teenager felt abandoned, began to skip school, got involved with a street gang, started drinking and smoking. In those same years, he developed an interest in computer games, which became both a refuge and a future profession for him.
Beginning of his career: from guides to first hype
In 2009, at 15 years old, Kirill registered on the streaming platform own3d.tv and began broadcasting his Dota games. At that time, his broadcasts were watched by an average of 30–40 people.
In 2011, he signed a contract with Twitch and created a channel on YouTube where he began uploading guides for Dota and Dota 2. The first videos were quite harmless - step-by-step instructions for the game. However, real popularity came to him in a completely different way.
2013: knocked out teeth and the birth of a meme
In the summer of 2013, during a live broadcast, Kirill's friend, a streamer nicknamed Chip, beat him and knocked out several front teeth. The fight happened right on camera. According to Zyryanov himself, Chip was jealous of his popularity.
The scandal went far beyond the стримерской community. Footage of the bloody mouth spread across the internet, and REN TV filmed a special report about it. At that moment, Kirill had only 35 viewers. But the video quickly went viral. And VJLink drew conclusions: it was from this moment that his career took off.
This incident became a "point of no return." Hate brought fame, and fame brought money. VJLink realized: conflict is a commodity that can be sold.
"Ebatorka": the flourishing of trash content
The concept of "life on stream"
Having abandoned the format of ordinary gaming streams, VJLink switched to what his viewers called "ebatorka" (a slang term for something chaotic/fucked up). He began broadcasting his real life - with all its scandals, drinking, and fights.
The "24/7" format became his calling card. Together with friends, he organized round-the-clock "Top Hat" streams, where viewers could order various tasks for participants for donations. Alcohol, scandals, broken furniture - all of this became part of the show.
In interviews from that period, Zyryanov stated that he "works honestly" and does nothing illegal. However, his broadcasts regularly raised questions from law enforcement.
"Nerves on edge": a gaming image that became reality
One of the most famous memes associated with VJLink is his wild scream "Nerves on edge!" during a gaming stream. This phrase and the emotional state it describes have become almost the blogger's calling card.
Later it turned out that problems with nerves were not just a gaming image. In 2016, Kirill was treated in a psychiatric hospital. He himself posted information about this online, and videos about the "mental hospital" became very popular. The streamer once again turned his weakness into content.
Major scandals: the price of hype
Incident with Eduard: drunken abuse and seizure
One of the first major scandals involving VJLink occurred in early 2021. On live broadcast, he forced a man named Eduard to drink - a man with serious health problems, presumably disabled.
Viewers, for donations, forced Eduard to drink, not allowing him to sleep, constantly playing loud music. At some point, the man had an epileptic seizure - he collapsed unconscious. VJLink continued to film the incident, providing no help.
This broadcast caused outrage among users who demanded that the streamer be held accountable. Zyryanov himself later claimed that he offered Eduard to undergo treatment at a clinic, but he refused, and the seizure was caused by intoxication, not illness. However, the residue remained.
Beating someone chained to a battery: a staged act for money
In November 2021, a new, even louder scandal erupted. During a broadcast, VJLink, along with his friend, blogger Ruslan Fyodorov (Zhabych), beat a man chained to a battery and launched firecrackers at him.
The broadcast lasted several hours. The victim begged them to stop the bullying and call the police. One of the viewers, unable to bear it, contacted law enforcement himself.
