Reposting a VK post to your page: step-by-step guide

What a VK repost is

A repost is publishing an already posted entry on your page, in a community, in a message, or in a story. The publication keeps a link to the original post: the author, a link to the original, and attachments, if available, are displayed.

A repost differs from manually copying text and uploading an image. With regular copying, you create a new entry with no link to the source. With a repost, users can go to the original, and comments on your publication and on the original post remain separate threads.

How to find the repost button on a computer

Open VK in your browser and go to the post itself. If the entry is in the feed, you can click on its text, date, or time of publication to open the full card.

Under the post, find the action row with the reaction, comment, and send buttons. To repost, you need the button with the arrow icon. Depending on the window width, there may be a "Share" label next to it, but sometimes only the icon remains. Don't confuse it with the three-dot menu: that contains actions for the publication itself, not the main send button.

Step-by-step repost to your page

1. Open the entry you need in the feed, a user's profile, or a community.
2. Click the arrow icon under the post — the "Share" button.
3. In the send window, select "On your page," "On the wall," or an item with a similar name.
4. Enter your own comment if you want to add an explanation to the entry.
5. Check the visibility settings and click the publish button.

After posting, the entry will appear on your page along with the original post. The name of the final button may differ: it could be "Publish," "Share," or "Post."

What you can add before publishing

In the repost window, a field for your own text is usually available. You can add your opinion, a brief stream description, a broadcast schedule, or an explanation of the clip. This text will belong to your publication and won't replace the original entry author's comment.

Before sending, check mentions, links, and line breaks. If you're sharing a stream announcement, it's better to include the broadcast time and platform right away so subscribers don't have to look for this information in the original.

The visibility setting determines who will see your repost on the page. It doesn't expand access to a private original entry: users without permission still may not be able to open the original.

Reposting a post with an attached video

If the original entry has a video, a regular repost passes it along as an attachment with the publication. You don't need to download the clip and upload it again. This is especially convenient for clips, stream recordings, and broadcast announcements: the link to the original entry and author is preserved.

Before publishing, make sure the video is available to your audience. A clip from a private profile or community may display in the repost but not play for users without access. If the video is deleted, restricted, or under moderation, the attachment's appearance may also change.

If you want to add another clip to the repost, use only the attachments available in the publication window. The ability to add an additional video depends on the type of the original entry and the current VK interface.

How to repost from a phone

In the mobile app, open the post and tap the arrow icon under it. In the menu, select publishing to your page, add a comment if needed, and confirm the posting.

On your phone, through the same menu, you can send the entry to a user or a chat, copy the link, and select publishing to a story. The item names may differ on Android, iOS, and the mobile version of the site, but the action you need is in the send menu for the entry.

Can you repost to a story from a computer

In the VK web version, reposting to a story from a computer is possible if the "To story" item is available for that entry and your account. Open the arrow menu under the post, select this option, edit the story card, and confirm the publication.

Such a repost isn't posted to the wall: it appears among stories and is available for a limited time according to the format's rules. If there's no "To story" item, the reason may be the type of entry, the author's restrictions, account settings, or the interface version. In that case, try the mobile app.

How to repost to your community

Reposting to a community differs from posting a link manually. Open the "Share" menu, select the option to publish to a community, and specify the public page you manage. After adding a comment, confirm the posting.

This method creates an actual repost: the entry preserves the original post, its author, and available attachments. If you simply create a new entry and paste the URL, that will be a separate publication with a link, not a full repost of the original entry.

Selecting a community is only available to users with the appropriate rights. If the public page doesn't appear in the list, check that you're logged into the correct account and have the right to publish entries on behalf of the community.

How to keep comments enabled in a public page

Comments under a repost in a community belong to the new publication. They don't carry over the discussion from the original post, so you need to check the comment settings specifically for the entry on your public page.

• Before publishing, check whether comments are disabled in the posting window.
• After publishing, open the entry menu and make sure comments aren't turned off.
• Check the community's general settings: disabling comments at the public page level can override the setting for an individual entry.

For a stream announcement, this matters: viewers should be able to ask a question under your publication rather than go to the original author's comments.

Why the repost button may be missing

• The entry is available only to subscribers, friends, or members of a private community.
• The author or administration has restricted the distribution of the publication.
• You opened a forwarded copy, an image, or a video without the original post card.
• A temporary error failed to load the action menu.
• The video, link, or other attachment is no longer available.

Open the entry from its author's page, refresh the tab, and repeat the action. If the problem occurs only in the browser, check reposting in the app. With private publication settings, access can't be changed without the owner's permission.

Deleting a repost from your page

To delete a published repost, open your page and find the entry. Click the three-dot menu in the corner of the publication, select delete, and confirm the action.

Deleting your copy doesn't delete the original post. The reverse isn't always true either: VK may store the published instance separately, so deleting the original doesn't necessarily remove the repost already posted on your page. At the same time, an unavailable attachment or a private source may stop opening.

If you need to remove only the text you added, open the editing of your entry when that function is available. This won't change the comment and content of the original post.
