How to Stream GTA 6 on PS5 and Xbox Series: Full Setup Guide

GTA VI launches on November 19, 2026, only on PS5 and Xbox Series X|S. There will be no PC version at launch. You can stream from a console in two ways. The first is the built-in broadcast: it is free and takes five minutes, but it is limited to 1080p60, with no overlays and no audio mixer. The second is a capture card plus a PC running OBS: from 130 dollars for the card, but you get full control over the picture, the sound and the choice of platform. If you want to stream on release day and build up your viewer count, go with the second option and set it up in advance, not on launch night.

What we know about the GTA VI release

The game's official page on rockstargames.com lists the date of November 19, 2026 and two platforms: PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S. Pre-orders are already open. Take-Two has confirmed the date as well: in May 2026, the company's CEO Strauss Zelnick said on an investor call that the game comes out on November 19.

Nothing has been officially announced about PC. In October 2026, GamesBeat, citing four sources, wrote that a PC version could arrive in the first quarter of 2027, but Rockstar did not respond to its request for comment. For now it is a rumor. That means every GTA VI stream at launch will come from consoles.

Built-in broadcast on PS5

First, link your account: Settings → Users and Accounts → Linked Services, then choose Twitch or YouTube. For Twitch, the console will show a QR code or a code to enter at twitch.tv/activate. Quality is set in Settings → Captures and Broadcasts → Broadcasts → Video Quality (menu names may differ slightly depending on your system language). Choose 1080p and 60 frames per second if your internet allows it.

To start: press the Create button on the controller, choose Broadcast, pick a platform, enter a title, then select Go Live. In the broadcast settings you can turn party voice and your microphone on or off on air.

What to keep in mind in advance:

• you must be at least 16 years old to broadcast;
• on YouTube, your first live stream is enabled after you verify your phone number, and activation can take up to 24 hours, so do it a few days before release;
• the broadcast goes to only one platform at a time;
• a regular USB webcam will not connect to a PS5, you need the PlayStation HD Camera.

Built-in broadcast on Xbox Series

Press the Xbox button, open the Capture & share tab and choose Live streaming. Link Twitch with a QR code or a link, set a title and press Start streaming. In the panel you can change the game and microphone volume, put party chat on air, and manually choose the resolution and bitrate. Natively, Xbox can stream only to Twitch: you cannot go live directly from the console to YouTube, Kick or VK Video Live, you need a capture card.

Which method to choose

The built-in broadcast is fine if you just want to play live for friends or check whether streaming is for you. If your goal is to grow on release, you need a capture card: the category will have thousands of channels, and viewers choose by the thumbnail and the first seconds of the stream.

Capture cards: what to buy for your budget

All the models below connect to a PC over USB, pass the signal through to the TV with no delay (passthrough) and work with OBS. Prices are only those verified on the manufacturer's website; in Russian stores they are different.

For streaming on Twitch and Kick, 1080p60 capture is enough: Kick does not accept anything above 1080p, and 2K on Twitch is available only to Partners and Affiliates through Enhanced Broadcasting. An expensive card is needed for recording high-resolution videos for YouTube or for playing on a TV at 120 Hz.

HDCP on PS5: without this you will get a black screen

HDCP is copy protection for the HDMI signal. On PS5 it is on by default, and the capture card sees a black screen instead of the game. Turn it off like this: Settings → System → HDMI → Enable HDCP, switching the toggle to off. Do this while the PS5 is connected directly to the TV, without the card, otherwise you simply will not see the menu.

If you watch movies on your PS5, turn HDCP back on after the stream. Elgato's instructions for Xbox Series have no step for disabling HDCP: on Xbox consoles the protection is applied in video apps, while capture cards record the game signal.

One more thing for PS5. If your headphones are plugged into the controller, game audio stops going out over HDMI and the card will not receive it, so listen to the game through the PC or the TV.

OBS settings for a console stream

In OBS, add a Video Capture Device source and pick your card from the list. Set the base and output resolution to 1920×1080 at 60 frames per second. Set the keyframe interval to 2 seconds: YouTube, Kick and VK Video Live all recommend it directly. Set the bitrate control to CBR (Kick, for example, does not support VBR at all).

Encoder: if your PC has an NVIDIA graphics card, use NVENC H.264. The game runs on the console, so the PC's graphics card is free. Kick, for example, recommends the P6 preset and single pass for NVENC. If you have no graphics card but a powerful processor, x264 with the veryfast preset will do.

Your upload speed should be roughly twice the bitrate: for 6000 kbps, about 12 Mbps. If the stream stutters, lower the bitrate in steps of 1000 kbps. 2K on Twitch works through Enhanced Broadcasting in OBS with a compatible graphics card, not from the console's built-in broadcast. If you do not have such a graphics card, stream in 1080p.

Audio: game, microphone and party

Set up three sources and test them in a trial recording before release.

• Game audio reaches OBS together with the video from the capture card. If it is missing, enable audio capture in the source properties or add the card separately as an audio input.
• Connect your microphone to the PC, not the controller: that way you can add noise suppression and a compressor in OBS.
• Party voice is the hardest part. On PS5, party chat does not go out over HDMI if a headset is connected. On Xbox you can set party chat output to Headset and speakers and it will reach HDMI, but in-game voice chat will still stay in the headset only.

Options for party: a splitter cable such as the Elgato Chat Link Pro, which sends audio from the controller to your headphones and to the line input of the card or PC at the same time. Or, simpler, get on a Discord call with your friends on the PC and capture its audio in OBS as a separate source. Then you adjust the volume of each voice yourself.

A good target: your voice louder than the game, the game slightly louder than the party. Check a couple of minutes of the recording on headphones.

Radio, music and the DMCA risk

Radio is part of the GTA atmosphere. In October 2026 Rockstar revealed the first six GTA VI stations, among them Flash FM, Back Country and Dirty South Classics, and together with Atlantic Records announced a soundtrack album. The stations play licensed music by real artists, and rights holders can file complaints about it in stream recordings.

Rockstar had not announced an official streamer mode that disables licensed music at the time of writing. The rumor about it came from a GTA blogger who visited the Rockstar North studio, but the company has not confirmed it. Whether such an option will exist will only become clear after release.

What to do until then:

1. In the very first hour, check the game's audio settings: look for the radio volume or an option for streamers. In previous games you could turn off the radio in the car.
2. If music still plays, enable Twitch VOD Track in OBS (Settings → Output → enable advanced encoder settings → Twitch VOD Track; by default track 1 is the live stream and track 2 is the recording) and do not send game audio with music to that track. Live viewers hear everything, but the recording will have no music.
3. Before publishing clips on YouTube and VK Video, cut out or mute the parts with songs, otherwise rights holders may monetize the video or restrict it in some countries.

How to prepare your channel for release

• Category. Find the Grand Theft Auto VI category on Twitch, Kick and VK Video Live in advance and make sure search returns exactly that. A stream in the wrong category on release day is almost invisible.
• Title. Be specific and write in Russian: «GTA 6 — first playthrough from scratch» works better than «COME IN!!!» and helps Russian-speaking viewers find you in the general flow.
• Schedule. Announce in your profile and on social media what time you will go live on November 19 and how long you plan to stream. Check the exact time the game unlocks in the PlayStation Store or Microsoft Store closer to the date.
• Announcement. A post and a short video of your setup a week ahead, a reminder a day ahead, a «starting in an hour» post an hour ahead. Announcements in Telegram and Discord servers bring the best first viewers.
• Rehearsal. 2–3 days before release, run a test stream of a different game through the same setup.

The first hours after release are the most important window. Platforms push up channels that already have viewers and an active chat, so your starting viewer count decides whether anyone sees you at all. If you want to secure the start, in the viewer management panel you can put together a plan for the length of your stream, and Twitch followers will help the channel look alive by the time you launch.
