Super Thanks on YouTube: Setup, Amounts, and Why the Button Is Missing
What Is Super Thanks on YouTube
Super Thanks is a paid feature for supporting creators. A viewer can send a thank-you under a published video or Shorts by choosing one of the available amounts. After purchase, an animated message appears on the video page, and the viewer can add a comment that will be visible in the discussion.
The feature differs from Super Chat and Super Stickers. Those tools are primarily designed for live streams, while Super Thanks works with already published content. The creator doesn't need to post a separate payment link: if the channel and video meet the requirements, the button appears in the YouTube interface automatically.
Super Thanks does not unlock paid access to the video. The video can still be watched for free. The viewer decides whether to send support, so the presence of the button doesn't mean every view will generate income.
The feature is not available in all countries and isn't shown under every video. Its operation is affected by the channel's status, the creator's and viewer's region, the type of publication, comment settings, age restrictions, and rights to the content used.
Who Can Enable Super Thanks
To enable it, the channel must be part of the YouTube Partner Program and have access to fan funding tools. The creator must be at least 18 years old, the feature must be supported in their country of residence, and the channel must comply with YouTube's monetization policies.
The channel must also have accepted the commerce module terms, and receiving payouts requires a linked AdSense for YouTube account. The channel must not be set as made for kids. Official artist music channels are also among the exceptions for which Super Thanks may be unavailable.
In regions where the expanded Partner Program applies, access to support tools may be granted upon meeting one of the following sets of conditions:
- at least 500 subscribers;
- at least three public uploads in the last 90 days;
- either 3,000 watch hours of public long-form videos in the last 12 months, or 3 million Shorts views in the last 90 days.
These thresholds relate to access to fan funding features, not to full ad monetization. The expanded program is not available in all countries. If it isn't available in your region, YouTube may impose different conditions or grant Super Thanks only after joining the standard tier of the Partner Program.
You can check your actual status in YouTube Studio. Open the "Monetization" or Earn section and find the Supers tab. Studio will show whether Super Thanks is available for your channel and which conditions haven't yet been met.
How Much Can Be Sent and What Fee YouTube Withholds
For the viewer, the base Super Thanks options typically correspond to amounts of $2, $5, $10, and $50 USD or the equivalent in local currency. The minimum available amount is $2 USD or the regional equivalent. In the YouTube interface, the set of options may vary depending on the country, currency, device, and payment method. Before confirming the purchase, the viewer sees the final amount.
The amount the creator receives does not equal the viewer's full payment. Under YouTube's rules, the creator receives 70% of Super Thanks revenue recognized by Google, after deducting applicable sales taxes and the app store fee for payments made on iOS. Other transaction costs, including credit card processing fees, are typically covered by YouTube.
For example, the 70% isn't calculated simply from the figure the viewer saw on the button. Local tax and any App Store fee are deducted first, and then the creator's revenue is determined. That's why the result depends on the viewer's country, currency, platform, and payment profile.
A separate AdSense payment threshold applies. If the accumulated amount is below the threshold for the account's currency, it carries over to the next payment period. There's no universal amount for all creators: the current threshold is displayed in the AdSense payments account and depends on the country and currency.
How to Enable Super Thanks in YouTube Studio
Section names may vary slightly, but setup is done through YouTube Studio, not through an individual video page. On a computer, use this sequence:
- Sign in to YouTube Studio with the channel owner or administrator account.
- Open the "Monetization" or Earn section in the left menu.
- Go to the Supers tab.
- Find the Super Thanks card and click the button to start setup or enable it.
- Review the commercial terms and accept the Commerce Product Module if it hasn't been accepted yet.
- Check your payment details and linked AdSense for YouTube account.
- Complete the setup and make sure the Super Thanks toggle is turned on.
You don't need to apply separately for each video. Once enabled, YouTube checks new and already published videos automatically. The button will appear only under publications that comply with the feature's rules.
If the Supers section doesn't appear on your phone, open Studio in a browser on a computer. In the mobile app, some settings may be unavailable or located elsewhere. Check not only the toggle itself but also Studio notifications: they may indicate the reason the feature isn't yet enabled.
How to Check That Super Thanks Works
After activation, open several public videos from the channel page or in view mode. Under a long-form video, the button may be called Thanks or display a thank-you icon. On Shorts, the controls are located elsewhere, so look at the action panel next to the publication.
Check not only the channel but also specific videos. Choose videos without age restrictions, Content ID claims, or other limitations. Comments under the video must be enabled. The viewer must also be able to use Super Thanks in their country and pay for purchases through a suitable method.
You shouldn't check the button only from the creator's account. Visibility may differ for the channel owner and a viewer from another region. If you need to check the user interface, ask an acquaintance to open the video from a supported country without sharing your payment details with them.
Check your first transactions and earnings in YouTube Studio revenue reports and in AdSense. Data may appear with a delay, so the absence of an amount immediately after purchase doesn't mean the feature isn't working.

How to Receive Thanks Without Pressuring Viewers
Super Thanks is best perceived as an additional way to thank the creator, not as a mandatory fee for watching. Mention the feature once at the end of the video, in a pinned comment, or in the description. The viewer should understand that watching remains free and support is entirely voluntary.
Calm wording without demanding payment works well:
- "If you found this episode useful, there's Super Thanks under the video. It's optional support for the channel."
- "You can watch the video for free. If you'd like to help create new breakdowns, use the Thanks button."
- "If this checklist was helpful to you, you can support the channel via Super Thanks under the video."
- "Thanks for watching. For those who'd like to support the episode, the Thanks button is available under it."
It's best to tie the wording to a specific benefit: a detailed breakdown, a test, editing, material preparation, or a regular release. There's no need to list all the amounts or repeat the request several times per video. One short mention is enough, especially if the feature is already visible under the video.
Don't tie payment to a promise of a guaranteed response, promotion, contest win, or personal result. Don't ask the viewer to reveal their phone number, address, card details, or other personal information in a comment. Super Thanks shouldn't turn into a way to pressure the audience.
You can reply to a paid comment, like it, or pin it if that complies with the channel's rules. In your reply, it's enough to thank the viewer and mention what the support helps direct resources toward: for example, preparing new tests or more detailed editing. Don't promise special treatment solely for payment if you're not prepared to keep that promise consistently.
Payouts, Reports, and Tax Matters
Super Thanks is counted as income from viewer support tools. In YouTube Studio, you can see transactions and approximate earnings, while final payment details are checked through AdSense for YouTube. There may be a delay between the viewer's purchase and the data appearing in reports due to transaction processing, a refund, or payment verification.
To receive the money, fill in your payment and tax details in AdSense. If the details aren't verified, the payment profile is blocked, or the payment threshold hasn't been reached, the earnings will remain on the balance and won't be paid out immediately.
The procedure for declaring income depends on the country of residence, the creator's status, and local law. YouTube displays payment information but doesn't determine the creator's tax obligations for them. If you have regular income, check the rules separately with a specialist or the official tax authority.
A payment refund can also change the final amount. That's why the income in the report doesn't always match the arithmetic based on the number of thanks and the options viewers chose.
Why the Button Doesn't Appear Under a Specific Video
The Video Is Made for Kids
Super Thanks isn't shown on videos marked as made for kids. The restriction may be set for an individual video or the entire channel. Check the audience settings in YouTube Studio, but don't change them just to enable a paid feature: the designation must match the content and the platform's requirements.
The Video Has a Content ID Claim
A video with an active Content ID claim may be excluded from Super Thanks. This situation often occurs in videos with music, clips from movies, broadcasts, music videos, and other content whose rights are claimed by a third party. Even if the creator added the material with permission, the button may not appear while the claim is active in the system.
An Age Restriction Is Set
An age restriction can also disable paid tools under a specific publication. Check notifications in the "Content" section and the video review details. Lifting the restriction is only possible if there are grounds, and it doesn't guarantee the button will appear instantly: YouTube must reprocess the publication.
The Video Is Private or Comments Are Disabled
Super Thanks doesn't work for private or unlisted publications. The video must be public. In addition, if comments are disabled, the thank-you button may be unavailable, since the paid message is tied to the video's discussion.
It's a Live Stream or a Premiere at the Time of Showing
During a live broadcast, Super Chat and Super Stickers are used for support. Super Thanks applies to published videos and doesn't replace live stream tools. After the broadcast ends, check the archive: if it has become public, has no claims, age restrictions, or other prohibitions, the button may appear under the recording.
The Channel or Viewer Is in an Unsupported Region
Even after activation on the channel, the button may not be displayed to a viewer from a country where Super Thanks is unavailable. Visibility is also affected by the account's age, payment method, app version, and the payment profile's region. The creator cannot manually enable the feature for an individual user.
The Setting Hasn't Updated Yet
After accepting the terms and enabling the feature, YouTube may not immediately update the status of all publications. Wait, check several videos, and make sure there are no warnings in Studio. If the button is missing under suitable public videos, compare the channel, audience, comment, and monetization settings, then contact official YouTube support with the video's URL and a description of your check.
Quick Takeaways: What to Do Step by Step
- Check whether the channel is part of the YouTube Partner Program and whether fan funding is available in your region.
- Make sure you're at least 18 years old, the commercial terms are accepted, and AdSense for YouTube is set up.
- Open YouTube Studio, go to "Monetization," and enable Super Thanks in the Supers tab.
- Check the button under several public videos without Content ID claims, age restrictions, or disabled comments.
- Mention the feature once in a calm phrase, without turning support into a mandatory condition for watching.
- Track transactions in Studio, payouts in AdSense, and take into account the fee, taxes, and payment threshold.
