How to Stream on Rutube in 2026

To stream on Rutube, you need an account with a verified Russian mobile phone number. There is no subscriber or view threshold for going live. Open Rutube Studio at studio.rutube.ru, click Add ("Dobavit") → Create stream ("Sozdat translyatsiyu"), fill in the title and category, copy the Server ("Server") and the Stream key ("Klyuch potoka"), and paste them into OBS. Rutube accepts only the H.264 codec, up to 60 frames per second, a video bitrate of 4–8 Mbps and AAC audio at 128 kbps. Set the keyframe interval in OBS to 1 second, otherwise the quality may get stuck at 360p or 720p. From a phone, you go live right in the Rutube app with Upload ("Zagruzit") → Create stream ("Sozdat translyatsiyu").

What your channel needs for the first stream

Rutube has no separate "streamer" status. A channel is created automatically at sign-up, and any registered user can stream. The help center lists no conditions on subscriber count, hours streamed or channel age.

The only hard requirement is a verified phone number. Rutube accepts only numbers from Russian mobile carriers; foreign numbers are not verified. For a streamer from Kazakhstan, Belarus or another CIS country this is the main barrier: without a Russian SIM card the go-live button will not work.

You will also need:

• a computer or laptop with streaming software, or a smartphone with the Rutube app;
• a stable internet connection with headroom on upload: at a 6 Mbps bitrate, your upstream should handle noticeably more;
• if you plan to take donations, a verified profile on Gosuslugi and Russian citizenship;
• if you plan to earn from ads, the status of a self-employed person, sole proprietor (IP) or legal entity.

How to create a stream in Rutube Studio and start it with OBS

Rutube does not limit your choice of software: OBS Studio, vMix or anything else that can send a stream over RTMP will do. The platform itself recommends the free OBS, so we will use it.

1. Sign in to your account and open Rutube Studio (studio.rutube.ru).
2. Click Add ("Dobavit") in the top right corner and choose Create stream ("Sozdat translyatsiyu").
3. If your phone number is not linked yet, Studio will ask you to verify it.
4. Enter a title (up to 100 characters), a description (up to 5000), a category and access: public or private stream.
5. Click Next ("Dalee") and copy two values: the Server ("Server") and the Stream key ("Klyuch potoka").
6. In OBS, open File → Settings → Stream, choose the Custom service and paste the server address and the key into the matching fields.
7. In Studio, decide whether you need autostart and chat (chat is on by default), and tick Donations ("Donaty") if you already have a wallet.
8. Click Start Streaming in OBS.

Note that the title, description and stream settings cannot be changed after the start. Change anything you want before going live. One more quirk: the stream counts as started from the moment data begins to arrive, even if you have not pressed the start button in Studio.

Stream key and its lifetime

According to the official help, the key is valid for no more than 24 hours from the start of the stream, which is also the maximum length of a broadcast. For a scheduled stream the key does not change until data starts flowing. This means that for every new stream you usually create a new broadcast with a new key. In September 2025 Rutube representatives told CNews about a permanent key for regular streamers, but the October 2026 help pages do not mention it. Check whether your Studio offers that option, and if not, update the key in OBS before every stream.

Scheduled stream

In the Stream start ("Nachalo translyatsii") field you can click Schedule ("Zaplanirovat") and pick a date up to 90 days ahead. Viewers on the web version will see a countdown timer.

How to stream on Rutube from your phone

You can go live from the Rutube app on iOS, Android and HarmonyOS, as well as from the RUTUBE Studio ("Studiya RUTUBE") app on Android.

1. Tap Upload ("Zagruzit") at the bottom of the screen and choose Create stream ("Sozdat translyatsiyu").
2. Link and confirm your phone number by SMS if you have not done so yet.
3. Allow access to the camera and microphone.
4. Set a cover, title, category, age rating, access and donations, then tap Start stream ("Nachat translyatsiyu").

You can switch between the front and main cameras right during the stream. A private stream from a phone is also possible: choose Access by direct link ("Dostup po pryamoy ssylke"). However, you cannot yet show your smartphone screen, for example a mobile game, from the app.

Quality settings: what Rutube itself recommends

Below are the figures from the official streaming FAQ. Rutube works only with H.264, so do not choose HEVC or AV1 in OBS.

Rutube suggests choosing the OBS encoder by your graphics card: NVIDIA NVENC H.264, Intel QuickSync H.264 or AMD HW H.264 (AVC). The example in the help uses the Slow (Good Quality) preset, the High Quality tuning and two-pass encoding at quarter resolution. On a weak computer, lower the output resolution to 1280×720 and 30 frames.

The main difference from Twitch and Kick is the keyframes. 2 seconds is the usual setting there, but Rutube states it plainly: set 1, otherwise viewers get 360p at most, or only stable 720p. Two more points from the help that will save you some nerves: in the Advanced section, enable automatic reconnect with a 1 second delay, and do not exceed the bitrate. In the vMix instructions Rutube warns that if you exceed it, transmission may be blocked automatically.

Streaming to Rutube and other platforms at the same time

Multistreaming is not banned. Rutube itself recommends OBS with the Multiple RTMP plugin: after installation a "Multiple output" panel appears under Docks, where you add the server and key of each platform. Starting all outputs at once is available only from the web version of Studio, not in the mobile apps.

Donations and monetization on Rutube in 2026

Officially, a Rutube streamer has two sources of income: built-in donations and advertising through the partner program. The help mentions no paid channel subscriptions and no equivalent of bits.

Built-in donations

Viewers click Support ("Podderzhat") under a stream, a video or on the channel page. To enable this, create a wallet in Studio under Donations ("Donaty") and choose where to show the button: on the channel cover and under videos, or under streams. For a single stream it is enough to tick Donations ("Donaty") when creating it.

• Only individuals with Russian citizenship can connect, and identity is confirmed through Gosuslugi.
• Rutube's payment partner takes 10% of every donation.
• Withdrawal goes to a Russian bank card or to the balance of an MTS, Beeline, MegaFon or Tele2 phone. The minimum is 51 ₽; withdrawing to a card up to 3000 ₽ costs a 50 ₽ fee, while withdrawing to a phone or to a card from 3000 ₽ is free.
• Limits: up to 60,000 ₽ per withdrawal and up to 200,000 ₽ per month. A withdrawal is confirmed by a call from the number linked to the profile.

Rutube states in its help that donations are treated as a monetary gift and are not subject to personal income tax (NDFL). If you handle large sums or have ad integrations besides donations, check with an accountant.

You do not have to use the built-in service: you can put a link to an external donation service in the channel settings. There is one condition: it must be available in Russia and must not violate Russian law.

Ads and the partner program

Before a stream starts playing, the viewer sees an ad, and streams can be monetized through the partner program. The conditions apply to the whole channel:

• at least 2 videos with the For everyone ("Dlya vsekh") access and 20,000 views in total since January 1, 2021;
• a Russian resident aged 14 or older with the status of a self-employed person, sole proprietor (IP) or legal entity; ordinary individuals cannot monetize;
• the application is submitted in Studio under Monetization ("Monetizatsiya") and reviewed within up to 30 days.

Rutube does not publish a percentage of ad revenue: the payout is calculated by a formula in the offer agreement and depends on advertisers and the author's popularity. Self-employed creators withdraw money through the wallet, while sole proprietors and legal entities receive it to a bank account; the minimum payout is 3000 ₽. Pros of Rutube. Donations and withdrawals work inside the platform to Russian cards without intermediaries. Fresh streams appear in the general Streams ("Translyatsii") section and in popular categories such as video games, and recordings after the stream go to New ("Novinki") in their category. The recording keeps the same frame rate, so 60 FPS stays 60 FPS.

Cons. You cannot start a stream without a Russian number, and donations require Russian citizenship. Rutube is first and foremost a video hosting service, so there are fewer tools made specifically for streamers: no paid channel subscriptions and no equivalent of bits. Rewinding a live stream works only up to 3 hours back, and you cannot download the recording of your own stream.

Common problems and how to fix them

• Quality is not above 360p or 720p. The keyframe interval is almost always to blame. Set 1 second in OBS.
• Phone number verification fails. Rutube does not accept foreign numbers; you need a number from a Russian mobile carrier.
• OBS will not connect. Check whether the key has expired: it lives up to 24 hours from the start of the stream. Create a new broadcast and paste a fresh key.
• The stream keeps dropping. Lower the bitrate, turn on CBR and automatic reconnect. If your upload is unstable, 720p with a margin is better than 1080p at the limit.
• No recording right after the stream. The recording appears at the same link after conversion, which takes some time.
• The stream was blocked. Moderators watch streams in real time. Films, series and other people's music without a license count as copyright infringement, while alcohol and tobacco in the frame require an 18+ label and forbid mentioning brands.

How to get your first viewers

The first streams on any platform often run with zero viewers, and algorithms are reluctant to promote empty streams.
