How to Withdraw Money from Twitch in 2026: Methods, Minimum Amount, Taxes
Only Affiliates and Partners can withdraw money from Twitch. The payout is sent automatically once a month, usually around the 15th, for the previous month, if your balance has reached $50 (for a SWIFT bank transfer, $100). Before your first payout you need to complete a tax interview: residents of countries other than the US get a W-8BEN form. The interview and your country determine how much tax Twitch withholds in the US: from 0 to 30%. Payouts to Russian banks have been blocked for Russians since March 2022 because of sanctions, and there are no official reports that they have been restored.
Who can withdraw money
Since May 13, 2026, Twitch has opened subscriptions, Bits, emotes and Channel Points to all streamers worldwide, even without a status. But the launch post states plainly: to receive a payout you need Affiliate or Partner status. Until you have a status, what you earn builds up in your balance, and you cannot withdraw it.
You become an Affiliate automatically once, within 30 days, you have reached 25 followers, 4 hours of streaming, 4 different broadcast days and an average of 3 or more viewers on at least 4 days. We cover the requirements and the pitfalls in detail in the article on the Twitch Affiliate program.
For the money to actually arrive, four conditions must be met:
- You have Affiliate or Partner status.
- The tax interview (Tax Interview) is completed.
- A payout method is selected and saved.
- Your balance at the end of the month is not below the payout threshold.
The interview and payout method are set up in the Creator Dashboard: Monetization → Income → the payment information section. Twitch warns that changes to payment details do not take effect immediately. According to secondary sources, citing the agreement for monetized streamers, not sooner than 15 business days. So there is no point in changing your details on the last day of the month.
Minimum withdrawal amount
The $50 threshold is officially confirmed. Twitch lowered it from $100 to $50 in 2022 and gradually extended it to different countries. In the 2026 post about monetization for everyone, the $50 threshold is stated as the current one.
| Payout method | Minimum amount | Where it is usually available |
|---|---|---|
| Direct deposit (ACH) | $50 | US |
| Local bank transfer (eCheck, Local Bank Transfer) | $50 | many countries outside the US |
| PayPal | $50 | where PayPal works with recipients |
| Check | $50 | limited |
| International transfer (Wire/SWIFT) | $100 | most countries |
Twitch does not publish an exact official list of which method is available in which country: the dashboard shows only the options that work for your country. If your balance is below the threshold at the end of the month, the money does not vanish but rolls over to the next month. You can also put payouts on hold manually (Payout Hold), and then your earnings keep accumulating until you lift the hold.
Fees
Twitch itself does not publish a separate fee for payouts, but currency conversion costs and bank charges are deducted from the amount. This is most noticeable with SWIFT transfers: the intermediary bank and your own bank may charge their own fees. If a local bank transfer is available in your country, it is almost always the better option.
When Twitch pays
Payouts are monthly. Earnings for a calendar month are calculated after it ends, and the money is usually sent around the 15th of the following month. For example, earnings for September arrive in mid-October. This is established practice, not a guarantee: under the agreement for monetized streamers, Twitch undertakes to pay within 45 days after the end of the month. The Twitch help page with the payout schedule did not open for us directly, so the timing is given from several secondary sources that cite the help page and the agreement.
One more detail: the figures in the Creator Dashboard are preliminary. The final amount may differ slightly, for example because of refunds and cancelled subscriptions.
Tax interview and W-8BEN
Twitch is a US company, so under US law it withholds tax on part of payouts to foreigners. The tax interview is needed to determine the rate. Residents of the US fill in form W-9, everyone else fills in W-8BEN. The interview is completed online right in the Creator Dashboard.
Without the interview the payout will not arrive. Do not put it off: according to descriptions of the agreement in secondary sources, if you do not provide tax details within 180 days, part of your earnings may be forfeited. If you did complete it but did not specify a tax treaty, Twitch withholds 30% of income that is considered US-sourced (mainly the part brought in by viewers from the US). Twitch splits income into royalties (roughly, payment for the use of content) and payment for services, but does not disclose the exact splitting algorithm. What exactly was withheld can be seen on form 1042-S, which Twitch issues to foreign streamers at the end of the year.
How to reduce the withholding
If your country has a tax treaty with the US in force, you can claim a reduced rate in the treaty section (Part II of form W-8BEN). For this you will need your local tax number, for example the IIN in Kazakhstan or the RNOKPP in Ukraine.
| Country | Treaty with the US | Treaty rate on royalties |
|---|---|---|
| Russia | key articles suspended by the US from 2024-08-16 | no benefits, 30% |
| Kazakhstan | in force | 10% |
| Ukraine | in force | 10% |
| Armenia, Azerbaijan, Georgia, Kyrgyzstan, Moldova, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, Uzbekistan | the 1973 US-USSR treaty is in force | 0% |
| Belarus | 1973 USSR treaty, partially suspended from 2024-12-17 | 0% (the suspension applies only to interest on trade financing) |
Regarding Russia: the US Treasury suspended most of the treaty, including the royalties article, for payments from August 16, 2024. Russia, for its part, suspended a number of the treaty's provisions with the US back in August 2023. In practice this means 30% withholding in the US with no way to claim the benefit, and you most likely will not be able to credit this tax in Russia, since a credit requires a treaty in force.
Regarding Belarus: we found no official statements from Twitch about payouts to Belarusian banks. Which payout methods are available to you can be seen only in your own Creator Dashboard.
Spendable Balance: spending your earnings on Twitch
Spendable Balance lets you spend what you earn inside Twitch: buy Bits and gift subscriptions to viewers without waiting for the $50 threshold and even without Affiliate status. According to Twitch's official post from May 2026, the feature is available only to streamers in the US, and a global launch is promised later this year. As of the end of October 2026, we found no official announcements of a launch in the CIS countries.
Payouts in Russia in 2026
In late February and early March 2022, Twitch stopped payouts to Russian bank accounts. In a letter to streamers the company explained this by sanctions and suggested specifying a payout method not covered by sanctions, and promised to pay out the rest of the money once it becomes permitted. PayPal suspended operations in Russia at the same time, in March 2022. There are no official reports that payouts to Russian banks have resumed, as of October 2026 either. In 2025 the media wrote that the earnings of large Russian streamers come mainly from direct advertising, not from Twitch monetization.
There is only one legal option: if you live in another country and an account is opened in your name at a bank in a country where Twitch payouts work, you can specify it. In that case your real details about your country of residence must be given in the tax interview and the profile. Other people's accounts, intermediaries and a wrong country violate the agreement with Twitch and risk having your payouts frozen. If you remain a tax resident of Russia, an account abroad must be declared to the tax authority under the currency control rules.
For more on what exactly is switched off for Russians and how it affects the channel, read the material on the blocking of monetization on Twitch.
Taxes in your own country
Withholding in the US does not release you from tax at home. A tax resident of Russia (more than 183 days a year in the country) must declare foreign income on their own: file a 3-НДФЛ by April 30 of the following year and pay the tax by July 15. For example, for 2025 income the return had to be filed by April 30, 2026. Since 2025 the personal income tax (NDFL) rate is progressive, from 13% to 22% depending on annual income. You can also work as a sole proprietor (IP) on the simplified tax system. Self-employment status for income from a foreign company is a debatable option. We covered the pros and cons of each regime in the article on taxes on donations and income from abroad.
In Kazakhstan, Ukraine and other CIS countries, income from Twitch is also taxed under local rules. Where a treaty is in force, the tax withheld in the US can usually be credited against the local one if you keep form 1042-S. It is best to check the details with your tax office or an accountant.
Alternatives for streamers from Russia
- DonationAlerts. Donations from viewers in rubles with withdrawal to Russian cards. The widget connects to your Twitch stream through OBS, so you do not have to change platforms.
- Boosty. Paid subscriptions with perks for supporters: private streams, early access, Discord roles. Suits those who already have a core of regular viewers.
- VK Video Live. A Russian streaming platform with donations and its own monetization. From September 1, 2026, VK Video lowered the entry threshold for its monetization program to 1000 subscribers. Many stream on Twitch and VK in parallel so as not to lose either audience or income.
Every one of these options comes down to one thing: a live audience on the stream. A new channel has a hard time breaking through in a directory with thousands of broadcasts. To get your first viewers and climb higher in the category list, you can put together the plan you need in the viewer control panel, add Twitch followers for the Affiliate threshold or support your channel on VK Video Live.
Frequently asked questions
Can you withdraw money from Twitch without Affiliate status?
No. Since May 2026 subscriptions and Bits are available to everyone, but only Affiliates and Partners can withdraw money. Until you get a status, earnings build up in your balance.
What is the minimum you can withdraw from Twitch?
$50 for most payout methods: a local bank transfer, PayPal, ACH. For an international SWIFT transfer the threshold is $100. If the amount is lower, it rolls over to the next month.
What day does Twitch money arrive?
Usually around the 15th, for the previous month. Under the agreement Twitch may pay within 45 days after the end of the month, and the bank needs another one to several business days to credit it.
What happens if you do not fill in W-8BEN?
The payout will not arrive until the interview is completed. If you complete the interview without specifying a tax treaty, Twitch will withhold up to 30% of income that is considered US-sourced.
Can you receive Twitch payouts to a Russian card now?
No. Payouts to Russian banks have been blocked since March 2022 because of sanctions, and there are no official reports of a resumption. You can legally receive money only to your own account in the country where you live and where payouts work.
Do you have to pay tax in Russia if 30% has already been withheld in the US?
Yes. A tax resident of Russia declares foreign income on a 3-НДФЛ. Most likely you will not be able to credit the US tax, because the treaty with the US is not currently applied to royalties.
This is not tax or legal advice. Twitch rules and tax regulations change, so before making decisions about payouts and taxes, check the Creator Dashboard, the Twitch help pages and a tax specialist in your country.
