How to Pin a Comment on YouTube Shorts: A Step-by-Step Guide

How to Pin a Comment on YouTube Shorts from Your Phone and PC

Why Pin a Comment on YouTube Shorts

A pinned comment appears at the top of the discussion under a video and helps make an important message more visible. It could be a clarification about the video, an answer to a frequently asked question, a request to share an opinion, or a link to related content on the channel.

You can pin your own comment or another user's message if you manage the channel and the relevant video. A regular viewer can't pin their own comment under someone else's Shorts: that option is only available to the channel owner or a user with the appropriate permissions.

A Shorts video usually has one pinned comment. If you select a different message, the previous comment will no longer be pinned, but the text itself won't be deleted. This is handy when you need to replace an old call to action or update information.

Pinning doesn't guarantee more views and doesn't promote the video on its own. It only helps direct viewers' attention to the chosen message.

How to Pin a Comment on Shorts from Your Phone

First, sign in to the YouTube app with the account that owns the channel with the relevant video. If you opened Shorts under a different profile, the "Pin" option may not be there.

  1. Open the YouTube app and find the Shorts you need.
  2. Tap the comments icon next to the video.
  3. Open the full list of comments and find the message you want.
  4. Tap the three dots next to the comment.
  5. Select "Pin" or "Pin comment."
  6. Confirm the action in the window that appears.

The name of the option may vary slightly depending on the interface language and app version. If the comment was posted recently, wait for it to appear in the general list and open its menu again.

For your own comment, you can first write a short message under the video and then find it among the others. When pinning a viewer's comment, check the text before confirming: it will be perceived as a prominent part of the channel's communication.

How to Open Shorts in the Regular Player

In the Shorts feed, the comments menu sometimes works less predictably than on a standard video page. For more reliable access to the pin option, open the video in the regular YouTube player.

Copy the Shorts address and replace part of the URL:

  • from: https://www.youtube.com/shorts/VIDEO_ID;
  • to: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VIDEO_ID.

Here VIDEO_ID is the identifier of the specific video. Leave it unchanged and only replace the path /shorts/ with /watch?v=. Then open the new address in your browser, sign in to the channel account, go to the comments, and open the menu of the message you want.

On a regular video page, the "Pin" option is usually more consistently available, especially if the Shorts feed in the app shows comments in a separate panel. This method doesn't bypass account and video settings checks, so it won't bring back the button if you don't have permission to manage the video.

How to Pin a Comment from a Computer

On a computer, use the regular YouTube website, not the comment management section in YouTube Studio. Studio is good for viewing, filtering, and moderating messages, but there's no separate "Pin" button for this action there.

  1. Open the page of the relevant video in your browser. If needed, first change the Shorts URL to the /watch?v= format.
  2. Scroll down to the comments section.
  3. Find your own message or a viewer's comment.
  4. Click the three dots next to the text.
  5. Select "Pin" and confirm the action.

After confirming, refresh the page or close and reopen the comments. The pinned message should appear at the top of the discussion and get the appropriate label. If it doesn't, check that you're signed in to the channel owner's account.

Which Comment Is Best to Pin

Your own comment is good for an explanation that didn't fit in the short video. You can use it to clarify a controversial detail, specify the name of a tool, ask the audience a question, or announce what topic you'll cover next.

If your goal is to get meaningful replies, ask a specific question about the Shorts topic. It's easier for viewers to pick an option, share their own method, or answer one short question than to respond to a generic call to subscribe.

You can pin another user's comment if it adds useful experience to the video or raises a question that interests many viewers. Avoid pinning insults, repetitive advertising, unverified claims, and messages that violate the platform's rules.

Keep the text short: viewers often read comments on their phones. One clear call to action works better than a long message with several requests.

How to pin a comment on YouTube Shorts

Links in YouTube comments can trigger spam signals. Because of this, a pinned message sometimes gets hidden, sent for review, stops showing to other viewers, or appears without the expected pin label.

If the message contains a website, social media, or another video address, that doesn't guarantee it will be publicly displayed. Be especially careful with multiple links, repetitive text, promotional wording, and unfamiliar domains.

It's better to put the main link in the Shorts description. In the pinned comment, you can briefly explain where to find it or leave a neutral call to open the description. That way, the message is less likely to be perceived as spam.

After publishing, check the comment not only from the channel owner's account but also in regular viewing mode. The owner may see a message that is already hidden from other users.

Where the Pinned Comment Is Visible

A pinned comment doesn't have to appear the same way across all YouTube interfaces. On a regular video page, it's usually at the top of the discussion section, but in the Shorts feed, comments may open in a separate window, load with a delay, or appear in a different order.

Some viewers may not see the pin in the Shorts feed if they don't open the full comments list. This doesn't always mean the pin didn't work. To check, open the video via the regular /watch?v= URL and look at the top of the discussion.

Display is also affected by comment sorting, age restrictions, regional settings, user sign-in status, and automatic moderation. So pinning makes a message more visible, but it doesn't show it to absolutely every viewer in every interface.

Why There's No "Pin" Button

First, check that you opened the comment's own menu, not the Shorts menu. The option is behind the three dots next to the message. If it's not there, possible reasons include:

  • you're signed in to the wrong account, or the profile doesn't have permission to manage the channel;
  • the video belongs to another creator, so you can't pin a comment under it;
  • comments on the Shorts are disabled or unavailable due to content settings for children;
  • the message was deleted, hidden, sent for review, or hasn't been published yet;
  • the comment was caught by the automatic spam filter;
  • the YouTube app or page loaded with a temporary error.

If the button isn't there in the Shorts feed, open the video in your browser via the regular address with /watch?v=. Then check the account, comment settings, and the status of the message. Don't look for the button in YouTube Studio: to pin a comment, go back to the video page itself in regular YouTube.

If you're having problems in the app, update it, restart it, and try again. On a computer, try opening the page in a different browser or in desktop site mode. If only the comment with a link disappears, remove the address from the text and put it in the video description.

How to Unpin a Comment on Shorts

Open the video page, go to the pinned message, and tap the three dots next to it. Select "Unpin" and confirm the action if prompted. The comment will stay in the discussion but will no longer be at the top of the section.

To replace the pin, you usually just need to select another comment and confirm the "Pin" option. The old text becomes a regular message unless you delete it separately.

What to Do Step by Step

  1. Sign in to the channel owner's account and open the relevant Shorts.
  2. If the Shorts feed is acting up, replace /shorts/VIDEO_ID in the address with /watch?v=VIDEO_ID.
  3. Open the comments and find the message you want.
  4. Tap the three dots next to it, select "Pin," and confirm the action.
  5. Check the pin on the regular video page, and if needed, move links from the comment to the description.
