How to Pin a Viewer's Comment During a TikTok Live

Why Pin a Comment During a TikTok Live

A pinned comment stays visible throughout the broadcast and appears at the top of the chat window, above the flow of new messages. This way, viewers can quickly find an important remark, even if dozens of other comments have already appeared after it.

In a pinned message, you can leave a question for discussion, briefly state the topic of the stream, write the rules of communication, give a heads-up about a giveaway, or ask viewers to subscribe. It's also handy to highlight a useful question from the audience and answer it by voice so the other participants understand what's being discussed.

Only the stream author can pin comments. A moderator will only get this ability if the author has explicitly granted them the right to manage comments in the settings of the current stream or in the moderator management section. Being appointed as a moderator alone is not enough. A regular viewer cannot pin their own message.

The feature is available during an active TikTok Live. The names of menu items and the appearance of the menu may vary depending on the app version, device, and account settings.

How to Pin a Viewer's Comment

Open the TikTok mobile app, start your stream, and find the message in the chat that you want to show to all participants. Before you act, make sure it's the right remark: most of the audience will see the pinned message, so it's best not to highlight a random comment.

  1. Tap the comment you want and hold your finger until the action menu opens. A quick tap may not be enough.
  2. In the menu, select "Pin comment." In another version of the app, it may be called "Pin" or have a similar wording.
  3. If a confirmation prompt appears, confirm the pin.
  4. Check the top of the chat: the selected remark should appear there above the regular flow of comments.

The pinned comment appears right at the top of the chat, not as a separate message among the other remarks. New viewers will be able to see it when they join the stream. If you highlighted a question, answer it during the broadcast, and once the discussion is over, replace the message or unpin it.

How to Replace or Unpin a Pinned Comment

In TikTok Live, you usually pin one remark at a time. To highlight a different message, find it in the chat, tap and hold your finger, and then select "Pin comment." The new remark may automatically replace the previous one. If the app shows a warning, confirm the replacement.

You can unpin a comment through the menu of the already highlighted message. Tap and hold the pinned comment, select "Unpin comment" or a command with a similar name. After that, the remark will remain in the general conversation, unless it was separately deleted, but it will disappear from the top of the chat.

Unpinning and deleting are different actions. The delete command removes the comment from the chat, while the unpin command only stops showing it in the pinned area. If a message violates the stream rules, delete it separately in accordance with the permissions available to you.

Don't leave a pinned remark unchanged for the entire stream if it no longer makes sense. An outdated announcement, a question that's already been addressed, or incorrect information can confuse those who join later.

What to Do If a Comment Won't Pin

First, check your permissions. The stream author can pin messages on their own. A moderator needs to be explicitly granted the right to manage comments in the stream settings. If a moderator is appointed but hasn't been given the necessary permission, the "Pin comment" option may not be there. In that case, the author must perform the action themselves or change the moderator's permissions.

Make sure the selected message is still in the chat. It may have been deleted by the author, another moderator, or the TikTok system. A comment may also fail to display due to filters, chat restrictions, or a temporary loading delay.

If the menu opens but the command doesn't work, check your internet connection, close and relaunch the app. Then repeat the action: tap the comment and hold your finger until the menu appears. Updating TikTok through the official app store can also fix a glitch if you're using an old version.

Sometimes the feature or individual interface items differ across accounts, devices, app versions, and regions. Don't change your stream settings at random. Do a short test stream, ask a viewer to write a new comment, and check whether the menu appears on a different remark.

If the pin disappears after you switch messages, this usually means the new pin replaced the previous one. Check the top of the chat again and make sure you didn't select delete instead of unpin.

In Short: Step-by-Step

To pin a comment during a TikTok Live, follow these steps:

  1. Start an active stream and find the remark you need.
  2. Tap the comment and hold your finger until the menu appears.
  3. Select "Pin comment" and confirm the action if prompted.
  4. Check the top of the chat: the message should appear above the other comments.
  5. To replace it, pin a different remark, and to remove the pin, select "Unpin comment."

If you're working as a moderator, make sure in advance that the stream author has explicitly granted you the corresponding permission in the stream settings.
