Why Kick resets the category after ending a stream
What happens to the category after ending a stream
On Kick, the category primarily applies to a specific broadcast. It helps viewers find your stream among games, talk shows, music, and other content. It isn't always a permanent channel setting that automatically carries over to the next stream.
That's why after you hit the end stream button, the selected category may disappear from active settings or revert to a previous value. In some cases, this is normal platform behavior, not an account error. When a new stream is created as a separate session, it may require selecting the category again and saving the parameters.
There's another situation too: the category was selected before the broadcast started, but after refreshing the page it disappeared or didn't show up for viewers. In that case, the problem usually isn't related to ending the stream, but to the changes not being saved in time, being overwritten by another tool, or not going through the interface due to a browser glitch.
Why Kick may not remember the selected category
The most common reason is that the selected value only applies within the current stream. The user changes the category, starts the broadcast, and after it ends opens the control panel expecting to see the previous setting. However, the platform may clear the parameters of the ended session and not use them as a permanent template for the next stream.
The category may also appear selected only locally in the open tab. For example, you clicked the desired option but didn't confirm the change, closed the page too quickly, or started the stream right away. In that case, the browser shows the new value even though the server didn't receive it. After reloading the page, the interface reverts to the old category or leaves the field empty.
Connection lag can also be a cause. If your internet is unstable, the save request may be interrupted. This happens especially often when settings are changed right before going live. The interface has already updated, but the data hasn't been written yet. Quickly ending a test stream can further confuse your check: you're evaluating the result before the platform has processed the broadcast information.
Finally, settings can be changed from multiple places. One tab is open on your computer, another on your phone, and a third-party program starts the stream with its own parameters. The last saved value may overwrite the one you set manually.
How to tell a normal reset from an error
First, determine exactly where the category disappears. If it vanishes only after the stream ends but displays correctly during the broadcast, it's most likely a property of the ended session. In that case, you need to select the category before each new stream if the panel doesn't have a separate permanent settings or template feature.
If the category doesn't show during the stream itself, check the broadcast page from another device or in view mode without logging in. Sometimes the value has already changed in the creator panel, but the open broadcast page still shows old data. A delayed refresh doesn't always mean the category was reset.
Separately, check the recording of the ended stream. The broadcast page and the saved recording may display different elements. After the stream ends, the platform may take some time to process the video and its information. If the category isn't visible right away, wait for processing to finish and then refresh the page.
If after refreshing the panel the category reverts to a previous value even before you start the stream, that's no longer a normal reset after ending. It means the parameter isn't being saved or something else is changing it. This distinction matters: in the first case, you need to set up a working launch routine, and in the second, look for a technical cause.
Checking category saving in the Kick panel
Open your channel's control panel and find the section where the title, category, and description of the current stream are set. The names of items may change after interface updates, so look for the fields with broadcast information. Select the desired category and wait for confirmation of saving if one is provided.
After that, don't start the stream right away. Reload the page or reopen the stream settings. If the selected category is still there, the change was most likely saved. If the field is cleared or reverted to the previous option, clicking the category again without an additional check won't solve the problem.
When selecting, pay attention to the exact category name. A game, talk stream, music, and other format may be in different sections. If the game you need has been renamed, removed from the catalog, or appears in several variants, the old value may not be accepted by the system. In that case, select the current option from the list rather than typing the name manually if the field offers catalog search.
Don't change the category in multiple tabs at once. Close extra panel pages, keep a single source of settings, and repeat the check. If several people manage the channel, agree in advance on where stream parameters are changed. Otherwise, one user may save the category and another may replace it almost immediately.
The impact of browser, extensions, and third-party tools
The Kick interface runs through the browser, so saving settings can be affected by outdated site data, blockers, automation extensions, and errors in local storage. To check, open the panel in another browser or in a private window. If the category saves there, the cause is likely in your main browser's settings.
Then temporarily disable extensions that modify pages, block scripts, or control actions on sites. Only clear site data after making sure you remember your login credentials and won't lose important settings. After clearing, log back into your account and repeat the check.
Also check programs and services related to starting the broadcast. If a tool can automatically change the title or category, it may send its own parameters when the stream starts. As a result, you select one category in the panel, but a different one appears at launch or the field becomes empty again.
For diagnostics, disable automatic metadata updates and do one test launch from the Kick panel only. If the category saves, enable external tools one at a time. That makes it easier to identify which program is overwriting the settings. Once you find the source, check its templates, schedule, and channel access permissions.
What to do if the category disappears after every stream
Don't change several parameters at once every time. If you edit the title, description, category, and launch settings all at once, it's hard to tell which action caused the reset. First test only the category, then add the other changes.
Before streaming, select the category in advance rather than in the last seconds. After saving, reload the page and make sure the value persisted. During the stream, check how the category displays on the channel page. After ending, wait for the recording to process and compare the result with what was set before launch.
If the problem occurs only in one browser, use another browser for the panel or fix your main browser's settings. If the reset happens across different devices, without third-party connections, and after re-authorization, save the details of the problem. It helps to note the time of the check, the browser used, the actions before launch, and exactly where the category disappeared.
When contacting support, attach screenshots from before launch and after the reset, but don't share your password, tokens, or other access credentials. The more precisely you describe the sequence of actions, the easier it is to separate normal active broadcast behavior from a data-saving error.
What to do step by step
- Open the current stream settings and select a category from the available list.
- Save the change and reload the page to check whether the selected value persisted.
- Start the stream without extra tabs and automatic tools that can change metadata.
- Check the category on the broadcast page and, after ending, wait for the recording to process.
- If the value resets, test another browser or a private window.
- If the problem recurs, disable third-party integrations one at a time and note the result.
- If the category doesn't save even without integrations, prepare a detailed description and contact Kick support.
