Why a Twitch clip isn't visible in the channel's clips section
First check the source channel and the publication
A Twitch clip is tied to the channel whose stream the fragment was taken from. It isn't transferred to the page of the user who clicked the create clip button. If you were watching someone else's stream, the recording needs to be looked for in the clips section of that specific channel, not in your own profile or on your own channel's page.
This matters when viewing a stream through recommendations, a raid, an embedded player, or a VOD link. Open the clip details and compare the channel name listed there with the section you're checking.
Which lists shouldn't be confused
- Channel clips — fragments from this channel's streams, created by viewers and other users.
- Clips created by your account — recordings from various channels that you specifically made.
- The channel author's page and your profile may show different sets of clips.
Make sure the clip is actually published
After clicking the create clip button, Twitch opens an editor with the selected fragment. At this stage, the recording hasn't necessarily become public yet. You need to check the moment, change the title if needed, and finish publishing in the clip window itself.
If you close the tab, leave the page, or refresh it before completing this action, a public recording may not be created. In that case, the clip won't be in the channel section or in the list of fragments created by the user.
The main sign of a published clip is its separate address. Open the link and check whether the video loads, whether the channel is listed correctly, and whether there's a restriction message. If the link didn't appear, you shouldn't start by checking filters or indexing: first repeat the clip creation and wait for publishing to finish.
Don't click the create button multiple times in a row. This can produce several identical fragments and complicate the check. If the link already exists, use it for further diagnosis.
Account for the list update delay
After publishing, Twitch needs to process the video, create a card, and link it to the channel. Usually the clip appears in the list within a few minutes. A short delay by itself doesn't mean the recording was deleted or created incorrectly.
In rare cases, updating the section can take up to 24 hours. During this time, the clip can already open via a direct link but not yet display among the channel's cards. Check the recording's address separately from the list and don't create new copies just because a card is temporarily missing.
If after a day the clip still opens via a direct link but doesn't appear in the correct section, move on to checking filters, the source VOD, and restrictions. If the link itself doesn't work, it's more important to find out the status of the clip and the stream.
Reset the filters and select the correct list
A published clip may be hidden by page parameters. The result is affected by the selected period, sorting, and list type. When sorting by popularity, a fresh recording will end up far from the first cards, and a limited period will exclude older clips.
Open the clips page of the desired channel, set the widest possible period if such a setting is available, and select sorting by new or recent publications. Remove additional filters and scroll past the first entries. The names of Twitch elements may differ in the browser, mobile app, and channel dashboard.
In the author's dashboard, it's especially easy to open the wrong section. Check that you're viewing the channel's clips and not recordings created by your account. The absence of a clip in one of these lists doesn't yet prove it was deleted.
Check the source VOD and clip settings
If the source stream recording has become unavailable, hidden, deleted, or restricted by moderation, the associated clip may stop showing in the section or open with a warning. Check the VOD the fragment was cut from and make sure it's available to the channel owner and other users.
The cause may also be a change to a setting related to clip creation. If the feature was disabled before the publishing attempt, a new fragment may not have been created. Enabling this feature helps for new clips but doesn't restore a recording that wasn't published or has already been deleted.
The channel owner can delete a clip after publication. If the recording was previously in the list and then disappeared, compare it with other fragments from the same stream and check whether the old link opens.
Check the gray thumbnail bug separately
Sometimes the clip is already in the list, but a gray square is shown instead of an image. This is a different problem: the recording hasn't necessarily disappeared. The failure can occur when generating the thumbnail due to the codecs or bitrate of the source VOD.
Open the clip itself via the direct link. If the video plays and only the card image remains gray, the problem relates to the thumbnail, not to publication or indexing. Compare the display in another browser, mobile app, and on another device: in one interface the image may fail to load, while in another it displays normally.
If the gray square is visible everywhere, save the link and note this in your support request. State that the clip is present in the list but its thumbnail wasn't generated or displays incorrectly. Don't delete a working recording or create multiple copies without need.
Clarify the impact of bans, strikes, and reports
After a channel ban, strike, account restriction, or subsequent reinstatement, Twitch may not immediately sync clips with the channel section. As a result, the direct page may work while the card doesn't appear in the list, or several recordings may disappear at once.
While a restriction is in effect, the clip may be hidden, unavailable to some users, or linked to the channel incorrectly. After a ban or other restriction is lifted, visibility also doesn't always restore instantly. Therefore, a mass disappearance of clips after sanctions can't be explained by filters alone: check the channel notifications and account status, then contact support if the recordings haven't returned.
Separately consider DMCA and other copyright reports. Because of them, the source VOD or the fragment itself may be hidden, restricted, or open with a notification. If the problem concerns clips from one stream, music, or other protected content, check the report messages and the state of the source stream.
Rule out a browser or app failure
Twitch may fail to load cards due to outdated page data, browser extensions, or a failure in a specific app. Open the section in another browser, temporarily disable the ad blocker, and compare the web version with the mobile app or author dashboard.
If the list is empty in one interface but the clip is visible in another, the problem is most likely related to display. If the recording doesn't open anywhere, check its availability, the source VOD, channel restrictions, and messages on the clip page.
Age, regional, and other restrictions can also change how a video is shown. Usually Twitch displays a notification on the recording's page. An empty list by itself doesn't yet prove deletion if the direct link continues to open.
What to send to support if the clip is gone for more than a day
If the clip is published, has a working link, the correct channel is selected, the filters are reset, and after 24 hours the recording isn't in the section, contact Twitch support through the help section or Contact Support. Select a topic related to clips, video, or a technical display error.
In your request, include:
- the direct link to the clip;
- the name and link of the source channel;
- the link to the source VOD, if it's available;
- the date and approximate creation time with the time zone;
- where exactly the recording is missing: on the channel page, in the author dashboard, in the list of created clips, or everywhere;
- the browser, app, and results of checking in other interfaces.
Attach screenshots of the empty section, the error message, and the clip page. If several recordings disappeared at once after a ban, strike, DMCA report, or change to channel settings, state this in the first message. This makes it easier for support to distinguish a list failure from deletion, VOD restriction, or an access problem.
Short check order
- Identify the source channel and don't confuse channel clips with clips created by your account.
- Check whether publishing finished and whether a direct link appeared.
- Wait a few minutes, and if necessary account for the rare delay of up to 24 hours.
- Open the correct channel section, reset the filters, widen the period, and change the sorting.
- Check the source VOD, the clip creation settings, and whether the channel owner could have deleted the recording.
- If a gray square is visible, check the direct link and other interfaces: the problem may be only in the thumbnail.
- Clarify whether there is a ban, strike, DMCA report, or other restriction.
- If after a day a clip with a working link still doesn't display, send a support request with links and screenshots.
