Why MAX notifications about new channel posts aren't arriving

Why notifications about posts in MAX may not arrive

The absence of a push notification doesn't always mean a new post hasn't been published. A publication may appear in the channel feed but not show up as a separate message on the phone screen. Notification delivery is affected by the channel settings themselves, account parameters, app permissions, the smartphone's operating mode, and the quality of the internet connection.

First, it's important to understand what exactly is happening. If the post is visible after opening the channel, the problem relates to notifications. If the publication isn't in the feed either, the cause may be a loading delay, an app glitch, or an error when the post was placed.

Also, a notification may not arrive right away. Push delivery depends on the app and operating system, so a slight delay by itself doesn't indicate a problem with the channel.

Checking channel and account settings

The channel may have been turned off in settings

A subscriber may have accidentally turned off notifications for a specific channel or set it to silent mode. The subscription remains: the person still counts as a subscriber and can read posts when opening the channel, but doesn't receive push messages.

You need to open the relevant channel in MAX and check the available notification options. The names of the items may differ depending on the app version and device. If "Mute" mode or a similar option is enabled next to the channel, it should be turned off.

Separately, it's worth checking the general account settings. If notifications about new messages and publications are disabled at the app level, configuring a specific channel won't help. In that case, MAX won't be able to show a push even with an active subscription.

Phone permissions and background restrictions

Even a properly configured app won't send a notification to the screen if the operating system has blocked that capability. Check the notification permission for MAX in your phone settings. On some devices, notifications are additionally divided by category, so the permission must be enabled for the right type of message.

Battery saver mode can also be the cause. It limits apps running in the background, which makes notifications appear only after MAX is launched. Mobile data restrictions, blocking of background activity, and "Do Not Disturb" mode have a similar effect.

If notifications only arrive after opening the app, first check background restrictions and power-saving settings. To test, you can temporarily disable battery saver, open the channel, and wait for the next publication.

Why MAX channel subscribers aren't receiving notifications about new posts

Internet, app version, and technical glitches

With unstable Wi-Fi or mobile network, a push message may be delayed. This is especially noticeable if the phone has been out of touch for a long time, connected to another network, or in airplane mode. After the connection is restored, the notification sometimes appears late.

Check whether new posts open manually in MAX. If the feed doesn't update, restart the app and connect to a different network. It's also worth installing any available MAX update: an old version may work incorrectly after changes on the service side.

Reinstalling the app or clearing its temporary data can help with a local glitch, but before doing so, make sure your login details are saved. If the problem appeared for many subscribers at once, the cause is most likely not the users' phones but a temporary service malfunction.

What the channel owner can check

A channel owner cannot enable notifications on subscribers' phones for them. They can check whether the post is published, whether the entry is displayed in the channel, and whether there was an error when sending. For diagnostics, it's convenient to ask several subscribers to open the channel manually and check the feed.

If the post is visible but notifications aren't arriving for only part of the audience, the problem is usually related to individual user or device settings. If the publication is missing for everyone, it's worth checking the posting status and contacting MAX support, providing the channel link, publication time, and a description of the error.

You shouldn't publish many identical messages in a row trying to trigger a notification. This won't fix subscribers' settings and may worsen how the channel is perceived. It's better to tell the audience where to find the notification settings and give a link to the post itself.

What to do step by step

  1. Open the channel in MAX and check whether there's a new post in the feed.
  2. Check whether notifications for the channel and account are turned off.
  3. Allow MAX to send notifications in your phone settings.
  4. Disable background activity restrictions and excessive power saving for the app.
  5. Check the internet, update MAX, and restart the app.
  6. If the problem persists, compare notification behavior on another device and contact support.
