Why a Telegram post is published without a notification for some subscribers
Publishing a post and sending a notification are different events
A post in a Telegram channel may be available to all subscribers even if only some received a push notification.
Publishing adds an entry to the channel feed, while the notification depends on the sending mode, the individual subscriber's settings, the Telegram app, the operating system, and the internet connection. So the absence of a banner or sound does not yet mean that the post wasn't published or disappeared for part of the audience.
Even enabled notifications don't guarantee the same display on all devices. Telegram may show a signal without sound, delay it, or route it to a computer if the account is used on several devices at once. When the app is open, a separate push sometimes doesn't appear the way the user expects.
Views also can't be equated with delivered notifications. A subscriber could have opened the channel themselves, followed a link to the post from a forwarded message, or seen the post later. Low reach doesn't prove that Telegram failed to send notifications to everyone who hadn't turned them off.
First check the "Send Silently" mode
The channel owner should start with the settings of the specific post. Telegram has a "Send Silently" mode: the message appears in the feed, but the notification is sent without a sound. Depending on the phone's settings, the subscriber may see a banner, an icon, or an entry in the notification center, or may barely notice the post.
Check the method used to send the post in question. For a manual publication, look for a menu or sound icon next to the send button and make sure the silent option isn't selected. For a scheduled post, check the same setting before it goes out. The name of the option may differ slightly across app versions.
If publications are created by a bot or scheduler, open the settings of the task, the template, and the specific scheduled post. Such tools may have a separate "Silent," "Quiet sending," or similar toggle. Sometimes the setting is saved in the template, so all automatic posts are sent silently even though manual posts come with the usual signal.
Clear this checkbox, save the settings, and make one test publication through the same workflow. An already published post won't retroactively become a regular notification: you need to check the next entry.
How a subscriber can check channel notifications
If the problem is noticeable to only one or a few people, ask them to check the channel's own settings. To do this, open the channel, tap its name or avatar at the top of the screen, and find the "Notifications" option. Enable notifications and make sure the channel isn't set to "Silent" or "Disable notifications."
On iOS and Android, notification settings work differently: the location of the options, the available modes, and background restrictions vary. So instructions for one phone won't always look the same on another, even if the same account is used in Telegram.
On iPhone, after checking the channel, open the system "Settings," select "Notifications," and find Telegram. Allow notifications, display on the lock screen, in the notification center, and as banners if the user needs these options. Also check "Focus" modes and notification summaries: they can hide or postpone the signal.
On Android, open the system "Settings," then the "Notifications" section, the list of app notifications, and Telegram. Allow notifications and check individual categories if the phone shows them. On some models, additional delays are caused by battery saving, background activity restrictions, or "Do Not Disturb" mode.
What else can interfere with a notification on the phone
Channel notifications can be limited without leaving the channel or disabling other Telegram messages. So a subscriber may receive signals from personal chats and groups but miss posts from a specific channel. The owner sees the subscription and the user's activity but doesn't get data about their local settings.
A separate signal may not appear if the app is open on another device. For example, the account is used on a computer while the phone is locked. The notification may appear on the computer, arrive later on the smartphone, or go unnoticed due to silent mode.
The result is also affected by an unstable internet connection, background activity restrictions, and system concentration modes. These parameters are on the subscriber's side, so an administrator can't fix them by adjusting the publication. If the complaint is isolated, first ask the person to check the channel, Telegram, and the phone's permissions.
It's helpful to clarify what exactly the person means by a missing notification: no banner appeared, no sound played, the entry didn't show on the lock screen, or the post didn't arrive at all. These are different cases, and different settings may apply to each.
How to use statistics without drawing wrong conclusions
Channel and scheduler statistics don't show who exactly received the push. The owner doesn't see a list of subscribers whose screen displayed a banner, so this data can't confirm notification delivery to each person.
Reach and views only help compare similar publications. Look at entries of a similar format, volume, and posting time, and check metrics over the same interval after publication. A recent post will naturally have fewer views than an entry that has been in the channel for several days.
Audience reaction is influenced by the topic, headline, time, format, competition with other posts, and subscriber interest. If a silent publication got fewer views once, that doesn't yet prove a notification problem. Conversely, identical reach doesn't mean every subscriber received a push.
For a practical check, it's enough to compare a manual post with a publication from the same bot or scheduler. Don't change the text, time, and sending method at the same time. That way it will be clearer whether the difference is specifically related to the "Silent" setting.
If notifications were delayed for many subscribers
A mass delay usually requires a different check. If the post is visible in the channel, it was sent without "Silent" mode, and complaints come simultaneously from users with different phones, the cause may be a temporary delivery delay or a glitch on Telegram's side.
First, see whether the situation repeats across several publications. Check the notification in a test account or ask several subscribers with different devices to open the channel settings. If the delay occurs for only one person, a local cause is more likely. If it happens to many at once, don't rush to change the bot or move all publications to manual sending.
Also take into account connection quality and app activity. With an unstable internet connection, the post may appear after the connection is restored, and the notification may arrive later. Telegram's official materials on notification settings are available in the FAQ: https://telegram.org/faq#q-how-do-i-change-my-notification-settings.
Don't promise subscribers that one setting will restore notifications for everyone. An administrator can remove silent sending and check the publication workflow but doesn't control phone permissions, focus modes, and delivery to a specific device.
What a channel owner should do, step by step
- Open the settings of the post in question, the scheduled task, and the template. Make sure "Send Silently" is turned off.
- Make a test post using the same method as your regular entries. Check whether a notification appears on a test account.
- Compare several similar publications by views over the same time interval, but don't treat views as proof of push delivery.
- If complaints are isolated, ask the subscriber to open the channel, tap its name or avatar, select "Notifications," and enable them.
- Ask them to separately check Telegram's system notifications, "Do Not Disturb," "Focus," battery restrictions, and other phone settings.
- If the delay affected many users at once, monitor several posts and take into account a possible temporary glitch or delay on Telegram's side.
