Why TikTok LIVE Studio Isn't Capturing Game Audio Even Though the Microphone Works

Why the Microphone Is Audible in TikTok LIVE Studio but the Game Isn't

Why the Microphone Works but Game Audio Disappears

The microphone and game audio reach TikTok LIVE Studio through different channels. The microphone connects as a separate input source, while game audio can be routed through the system output, game capture, screen capture, or a dedicated audio source. So a working microphone doesn't mean the app is receiving a signal from the game.

The problem usually occurs in one of several places: there's no game audio source in the scene, the game outputs audio to a different device, the channel is muted in the mixer, the source is capturing the wrong process, or the audio is being routed through a virtual device. Sometimes the game is launched after the stream has been set up and wasn't recognized correctly.

The fact that you can hear the game in your headphones also doesn't prove there's audio in the stream. The game may be sending the signal directly to the headset, while LIVE Studio is expecting audio from the monitor speakers or another device. First you need to determine at which point the signal disappears.

First, Find Where the Signal Disappears

Launch the game and turn on a sound that's easy to notice: menu music, a character's voice, or a sound effect. Make sure the game is actually audible in your headphones or speakers. If there's no sound in Windows already, adjusting LIVE Studio won't help: you first need to restore output on the computer.

Then check whether the game source indicator in LIVE Studio responds. If the indicator doesn't move, the app isn't receiving an audio signal. In that case, check the selected source and the output device first, not the mix volume. If the indicator moves, the signal has already reached the program, and the cause is most likely in the mixer, the master level, or the stream settings themselves.

This order matters. Channel volume won't fix a situation where the source isn't receiving any audio at all. And conversely, there's no need to change the Windows output device if the game indicator is already showing a stable signal but the channel is turned off in the mixer.

Check the Game Source in TikTok LIVE Studio

Open the scene you're streaming from and find the list of sources. It should contain a source for the game, screen, system audio, or another option through which LIVE Studio receives audio. The item names may differ depending on the program version, so focus on what the settings mean rather than the exact location of a button.

If only the microphone has been added to the scene, the voice will be transmitted but not the game audio. Add the appropriate source and check that it belongs to the current scene. A source created in a different scene doesn't always participate in the active stream.

When capturing the game, check the selected window or process. If the game was closed and relaunched, LIVE Studio may still be referencing the old process. In that case, delete the non-working source or reselect the game window. Don't add several identical sources unnecessarily: if capture is successful, this can create echo and doubled audio.

Check the Game Channel Separately in the Mixer

After checking the source, go to the LIVE Studio audio mixer. This is a separate step: having a source doesn't mean its channel is enabled and at the right level. Find the game audio channel and make sure it isn't muted, its slider isn't set to zero, and the scene's master audio is active.

Play a sound in the game and watch the channel meter. If it responds, LIVE Studio is receiving the signal. If the meter doesn't move, go back to the source and the Windows settings. If the meter moves but viewers can't hear the game, check the channel volume, the scene's master level, and the stream output settings.

Compare the game channel with the microphone. The voice shouldn't completely overpower the game, but a game audio level that's too low can also be practically inaudible in the recording. Don't change all the sliders at once: first note the original values and change only one parameter at a time.

Match the Game's Output Device with the Windows Settings

The game may be using a different device from the one selected in LIVE Studio or set as the system default. This often happens after connecting new headphones, an HDMI monitor, a Bluetooth headset, or an external sound card.

Open the Windows sound settings and check the default output device. Then open the volume mixer and find the game in the list of apps. A separate output device different from the system one may be assigned to it. Select the correct headset or speakers and make sure the game volume isn't set to zero.

Check whether the game is muted in the Windows mixer. Sometimes the computer's overall audio works but a specific app has been accidentally silenced. Also pay attention to the correct connection of a Bluetooth device: it may show up in the system but not be used by the game after reconnecting.

After changing the output device, close the game and launch it again. Many games detect the audio device only at startup and don't switch automatically. If LIVE Studio was also open before the settings were changed, restart it after the game.

Rule Out NVIDIA Broadcast, Voicemeeter, and Virtual Cables

Voice processing and audio routing programs can change the output chain. These conflicts include NVIDIA Broadcast, Voicemeeter, and virtual audio cables. The game may be sending audio to a virtual device while LIVE Studio is listening to the physical headset. As a result, you hear one channel while the stream gets a different one or nothing at all.

To check, temporarily simplify the setup. Select regular headphones or speakers as the output device for the game and Windows, and specify the corresponding source in LIVE Studio. If game audio appears after that, reintroduce NVIDIA Broadcast, Voicemeeter, or the virtual cable one at a time and check the indicator each time.

In Voicemeeter, it's important to check not only the input but also the output bus channel. The virtual cable must be selected where LIVE Studio actually receives it. If the program is used only for the microphone, don't route game audio through it unnecessarily.

NVIDIA Broadcast is more commonly used for the microphone and voice processing, but it can be part of the output chain if the corresponding speaker device is selected. During diagnostics, disable the extra processing and check the audio through a direct device.

Check Game Capture and Access Permissions

If the output device is configured correctly but the game source indicator is still silent, check the capture itself. Make sure the correct game is selected, not a closed window, launcher, or another process. After a game update or computer restart, the source sometimes has to be selected again.

To check, temporarily switch the game from exclusive fullscreen mode to windowed or borderless. Some capture methods work more reliably when the window is accessible to the system as a regular app. After changing the mode, reselect the game in the LIVE Studio source.

The launch order and access permissions also matter. Fully close the game and LIVE Studio, then launch them again in normal mode. If the problem occurs in only one game, compare the result with another one. This way you can tell whether the issue is related to a specific capture method or to the overall audio path.

Check the audio in the game itself: the master level, music, effects, and the selected output device. Sometimes voice chat works but other sounds are disabled by the game's internal settings, so you need to check not just whether there's any signal but also the correct game channel.

If the Indicator Shows a Signal but Viewers Can't Hear the Game

A moving indicator means audio is reaching LIVE Studio but doesn't guarantee it's being transmitted to the stream. Check whether the game audio channel is turned off, whether the scene's master audio is disabled, and whether the level is set too low. If the program has separate monitoring and output settings, don't confuse the audio you hear locally in your headphones with the audio that reaches the stream.

Make a short test recording or use the preview if that feature is available. Both the voice and the game audio should be audible in the recording. If you can hear the game in your headphones but not in the test file, look for the problem in the mixer or the LIVE Studio output settings. If the game is present in the recording but disappears only during the stream, check the active scene's parameters and the channel used specifically for the broadcast.

Don't add the same system audio simultaneously through game capture and through desktop audio. With this setup, the signal may be duplicated, sound delayed, or create echo. Keep one clear path and verify it with a test recording.

Quick Troubleshooting Checklist

  1. Launch the game and make sure the audio is audible in Windows through the correct headphones or speakers.
  2. Open the Windows volume mixer and check the game's volume and the output device assigned to it.
  3. Temporarily disable NVIDIA Broadcast, Voicemeeter, and virtual audio cables if they're involved in routing the audio.
  4. Open the active TikTok LIVE Studio scene and check that it contains a game, screen, or system audio source.
  5. Relaunch the game, select its window or process in the source, and check whether the game channel indicator moves.
  6. Only after the signal appears, check in the LIVE Studio mixer whether the channel is turned off, the game volume, and the scene's master level.
  7. Make a short test recording and make sure both channels are audible in it: the microphone and the game.
