How to Start a Twitch Prediction and Choose the Winning Option
What Are Twitch Predictions
A Prediction is an interactive Twitch tool where viewers choose one of the options and place a virtual bet using Channel Points. You ask a question, add possible outcomes, open the answer window, and after the event you select the correct option.
Predictions are often called voting, but the mechanics differ. In a regular poll, viewers simply choose an answer, and Twitch shows the distribution of votes. In a Prediction, participants use Channel Points. After the result is determined, the points of viewers who chose the wrong option are distributed among those who picked the correct outcome.
Channel Points are not money and cannot be withdrawn from Twitch. That's why a Prediction is suitable for gaming events, clearing a difficult level, challenges, choosing the next action, or any other result that can be verified live during the stream.
A Prediction must have a clear ending. Viewers need to know in advance which event will determine the result and at what moment you will close the answer window. If the condition cannot be verified unambiguously, it's better to use a poll or a regular chat discussion.
Who Can Use Predictions and What to Enable
Twitch Predictions are features for Affiliates and Partners. A confirmed account or a regular verification checkmark is not enough if the channel doesn't have the appropriate status. Twitch interface section names may change, so if the feature is missing, first check your channel status and the platform's current help materials.
Viewers need Channel Points to participate. If they're disabled, open the Creator Dashboard, go to Viewer Rewards, find the Channel Points item, and turn on the Enable Channel Points toggle. After that, save the settings if Twitch shows a separate save button. In the same section you can customize the name of the points and how they're earned, but for Predictions the points feature itself is enough.
If the Channel Points item or Prediction settings are missing, don't try to replace it with third-party voting that promises the same payouts. Check whether you're signed in to the correct account, whether you have channel owner permissions, and whether the tool is available for your status. A helper will also need a role with access to manage the channel's interactive features.
Before going live, it's useful to open the panel and test a Prediction with a test scenario. That way you'll know where the end button is, what the card looks like in chat, and what actions are available after the answer window closes.
Where to Find the Prediction Launcher
Prediction management is located in the Creator Dashboard. Open the Stream Manager section — that's where quick actions for the current stream are located. These may include tools for polls, ads, rewards, and Predictions.
Find the action with a name related to Predictions. If it's not on the panel, click the add quick action button and select the Prediction from the list. The name and location of the buttons depend on the Twitch interface language, but the element you need is usually among the chat interaction tools.
After opening the tool, a creation form will appear. In it, you need to enter the question, add answer options, and choose the duration of the betting window. Before launching, reread the text the way the viewer will see it in the Prediction card. It's better to fix an error in the question or options before confirming rather than explaining it after the start.
If a moderator or editor launches the Prediction, check in advance whether they can see the needed action. Not every helper gets the same set of permissions. Assign someone responsible for launching and ending it so that during an active chat, several people don't press different buttons at the same time.
How to Phrase the Question and Options
A good question describes one specific event and leaves no room for different interpretations. For example: "Will I clear the next section without losing health?" The options in this case are "Yes" and "No," and the result can be determined at the moment the section is completed.
Another good example: "Which team will win the next round?" The options would be the names of the two teams. If a draw is possible, it also needs to be added, otherwise after the event the correct outcome may not match any option. For a loot box, the wording "Which item will drop from the next chest?" works well, with the items that can actually appear listed in advance.
Bad options look different. "Will I be lucky today?" doesn't explain what event counts as luck. "Will I make it fast?" contains no time boundary. The options "Victory" and "Victory with an advantage" overlap: one outcome can fit both answers at the same time. Such wording creates a dispute already at the stage of choosing the result.
Before launching, check several conditions:
- the question describes one verifiable outcome;
- the options cannot be correct at the same time;
- for a numerical result, the boundary is specified in advance, for example "will I score more than a certain value";
- stream delay and the time needed to verify the event are taken into account;
- after launching, you won't have to change the meaning of the question or the list of answers.
Don't use vague words like "soon," "a lot," "almost," and "enough" unless you've explained their meaning. Viewers should understand exactly what will be the basis for choosing the winning option.

How to Start a Prediction During a Stream
When the question and options are ready, open the Prediction quick action in Stream Manager. Enter the event name or question, add answer options, and set the duration of the betting window. In the standard Twitch interface, a Prediction can last from 1 to 30 minutes. Choose a time during which viewers can read the condition and place a bet, but don't leave the window open longer than the event itself lasts.
You need at least two options to create one, and the total number of options must not exceed ten. Add only the outcomes that can actually happen. A large list of answers doesn't make the Prediction more accurate: it only makes the card harder to read and increases the risk of error when choosing the winner.
Before confirming, check the text once more. After launching, you cannot freely rewrite the question, replace the options, or change the meaning of the condition. If you notice an error after the start, it's safer to stop the Prediction and cancel it than to try to declare a result under new rules.
Click the launch button. Twitch will show the Prediction card in chat, and viewers will be able to choose an option and specify the number of Channel Points. Explain the condition with your voice and, if necessary, duplicate it with a chat message: state the ending moment and remind viewers that after confirming a bet they cannot change the option or the bet size.
While the window is open, keep an eye on the card and the time. If the event ends earlier than the set deadline, don't wait for the automatic ending. Open the active Prediction in the control panel and select the action to stop accepting answers, usually called End Predictions. This button stops new bets, but by itself it doesn't yet determine the winner.
Technical Limits and Viewer Bets
The main limits should be considered before launching. A single Prediction has from two to ten options. The duration of the answer window ranges from one to thirty minutes. The exact button labels and available time values may depend on the interface version, but you cannot go beyond the standard range using Twitch's tools.
A viewer chooses an option and specifies the number of available Channel Points. After confirming, they cannot move the bet to another outcome or change its size within the same Prediction. That's why don't start collecting answers before you've explained the question and options out loud.
The Prediction time is the betting window, not the mandatory time until the result is determined. For example, you can open a Prediction for five minutes, and the event will end in two. In this case, after the event ends, you manually stop accepting answers, then proceed to determine the result. If the set deadline expires earlier, Twitch will close the window automatically, but the Prediction will still remain without a selected winning option until you act.
The number of points available to a specific viewer depends on their balance. Don't promise participants monetary compensation or a fixed benefit: Channel Points are intended for features within Twitch and have no established monetary equivalent.
How to Stop a Prediction and Choose the Winner
After the event ends, first close the answer window. If the timer is still running, open the active Prediction card in the control panel and click End Predictions or the corresponding button in your language. No new bets can be accepted after that. Already placed bets are preserved, and the card moves to the result determination stage.
Now compare the actual event with the original question. Don't choose an answer based on the general situation on the stream. If you asked about winning a round, wait for that exact round to end. If the condition was about clearing a section without damage, make sure the section is completed and the character really didn't lose health. If the question was about time, check the set boundary, not an approximate estimate.
In the completed Prediction card, select the action to determine the result. Twitch will show the list of created options. Click the one that matches the condition and confirm your decision. After confirmation, the Prediction becomes completed, and the system automatically calculates the payouts in Channel Points.
The points of viewers who chose the losing options form the pool for the winners. Each participant with the correct answer receives a payout depending on their bet and their share among the bets on the winning option. The smaller the total volume of bets on the correct outcome compared to the losing ones, the higher the payout may be, but the specific result is calculated by Twitch, not the streamer.
If the event didn't happen, the result can't be verified, or several options turned out to be correct at the same time, don't pick an answer at random. Use the cancel Prediction action if it's available in the card. On cancellation, the system returns the spent points to participants, so a disputed situation doesn't turn into an erroneous distribution.
Cancellation is different from choosing a winner. When you choose an option, some participants receive points according to the Prediction rules, and bets on the other outcomes are considered losing. On cancellation, there is no winning option, and points are returned to participants. Before confirming, carefully check which button you're pressing.
Moderation and Common Mistakes
Before the start, briefly announce three things: what exactly is being predicted, when the answer window closes, and by what fact the result will be chosen. Such wording takes a few seconds but helps avoid disputes. If viewers ask the same question about the rules, stop the launch and clarify the condition before the first bet.
Don't change the criteria after viewers have started choosing options. The phrase "I meant something else" doesn't fix an already created Prediction. Don't add new options via chat and don't declare an outcome the winner that wasn't in the card.
Don't launch a Prediction based on viewers' personal data, harassment, insults, or events that violate the platform's rules. Don't link virtual points to donations, prizes, or promises of payouts if such actions don't comply with Twitch's rules and the law.
For simple opinion gathering, use a poll. It's suitable when the percentage of votes matters and there's no need to redistribute points. A Prediction is needed for a specific verifiable outcome: who will win, what will drop, whether an action will be completed, or whether an event will happen before a specified moment.
If a helper runs the Prediction, agree on a short order of commands: who launches, who watches the timer, who closes the window, and who confirms the result. On an active channel, this reduces the risk of premature ending or choosing the wrong option.
In Short: What to Do Step by Step
- Check that the channel is a Twitch Partner or Affiliate and that Channel Points are enabled in Creator Dashboard → Viewer Rewards → Channel Points.
- Open Stream Manager and add the Predictions quick action if it's not on the panel.
- Phrase one verifiable question and prepare from two to ten mutually exclusive options.
- Launch the Prediction and set the duration of the betting window from one to thirty minutes.
- After the event, stop accepting answers manually or wait for the timer to end.
- Compare the actual result with the original condition and choose the winning option.
- If the result didn't happen or can't be determined unambiguously, cancel the Prediction to return points to participants.
