How to Get Viewers on TikTok LIVE in 2026: Timing, Battles, Promote

How to Get Viewers on TikTok LIVE in 2026: Timing, Battles, Promote

Viewers on TikTok LIVE come from four places: the For You feed, the LIVE section, notifications sent to your followers, and LIVE Events announcements. To get into those places and keep people watching, you need three things: start 30-60 minutes before your followers' peak activity (you can see it in TikTok Studio), explain what is happening on screen from the first seconds, and regularly join battles and joint streams to reach other people's audiences. There is a paid option too: Promote can boost a LIVE, but only for users 18+ with 1,000 followers. From Russia none of this works for now: with a Russian IP you cannot host or watch LIVE in the official app.

Where LIVE viewers come from

First, what you can actually influence. TikTok has no separate guide on how to reach the top of LIVE, but the official materials and rules show which paths exist.

SourceHow it worksWhat depends on you
For You feedA LIVE is shown in recommendations mixed in with videosFollow the rules, hold the viewer, do not lead people to other platforms
LIVE sectionThe LIVE button on the For You and Following pages opens a list of ongoing streamsA clear title and topic for the stream
FollowersAn in-app notification and a push (if enabled), a ring around your avatarThe number of active followers and your consistency
LIVE EventsA stream announcement; viewers sign up and get a reminder before it startsCreate the event in advance and invite people to it

Recommendations

The main source of new people is the For You feed. TikTok has officially explained that recommendations are built on viewer behavior: what they watch to the end, like, comment on, share, and whom they follow. According to TikTok, an author's follower count is not a direct factor. For a LIVE this means something simple: the system tries showing you to part of the audience and watches whether people stay. If viewers swipe away after a second, you will get fewer impressions.

There are restrictions too. The Community Guidelines state directly: a LIVE does not appear in For You if it contains content that is not allowed in recommendations, or if the main goal of the broadcast is to lead viewers to another platform. For repeat violations, TikTok may limit the visibility of your LIVEs. We wrote in detail about what gets streams shut down in our article on the TikTok LIVE rules. The general principles of recommendations are covered in the article on how to get into TikTok recommendations.

Followers and notifications

When you go live, your followers get an in-app notification, and a push on their phone if they have those enabled. A pulsing ring appears on your avatar and is visible in the Following feed. There is one more quiet channel: people who are watching your regular videos right now see that you are live and can jump into the stream with one tap. That is why a fresh video published a couple of hours before the stream works as an ad for it.

LIVE Events

LIVE Events is an announcement of a stream. You set the date and time in advance, viewers see the event, sign up for it, and get a reminder when the stream is about to start. The feature appeared in 2021 and at first did not work in every country, so if you cannot see it, the reason may be your region or account status. An announcement is useful for anything people should not miss: a tournament, a battle with a well-known creator, a giveaway, a premiere.

When to go live

The best time to stream is when your followers are online, not when all TikTok users are. You can check it in analytics: profile, TikTok Studio, Analytics, the Followers tab, the block with the most active hours. On a computer the same thing is in the analytics section of TikTok Studio. The data appears once the account has at least 100 followers.

Start 30-60 minutes before the peak. The first minutes of a stream are almost always empty: followers are only just getting the notification, recommendations have not collected impressions yet, and you are still warming up. If you start exactly at the peak, the warm-up eats the most valuable time. If you start earlier, by the peak you already have a live chat, and such streams hold new people better.

There is general data on peak hours, but treat it with caution. For example, Sprout Social in its 2026 report (data from November 2025 to February 2026, about 2 billion engagements) names Tuesday to Thursday, 2:00 PM to 6:00 PM local time, as the best time to post, and Sunday as the worst day. That study covers regular posts, not LIVEs, and the audience is mostly not Russian-speaking. Use it as a starting point and make decisions based on your own analytics.

  • Check your followers' most active hours in TikTok Studio.
  • Pick 2-3 regular slots per week and stick to them: it is easier for people to remember a schedule.
  • Start 30-60 minutes before the peak.
  • After a month, compare streams by viewers and watch time, and shift the slots if needed.

The first seconds: why viewers leave

In the feed, a LIVE competes with short videos. A person who stumbled onto you by accident has no reason to stay until they understand what is going on. There are no official figures here; this is practice tested by streamers.

Title and topic

Before you start, TikTok asks you to set a title and a topic for the stream. Be specific: "Ranked to Master, answering in chat" is better than "Stream". The topic helps show the stream to people who are interested in it, and the title helps them decide whether to stay.

The first frame

Vertical screen, face or game in close-up, good lighting, no black "starting soon" screen. Do not leave a static splash screen in the frame for long: a recording or a picture instead of a live broadcast is one of the reasons TikTok does not monetize a stream.

Talking to chat

Every few minutes, briefly repeat what you are doing and what comes next, because new people keep joining. Greet people by nickname, answer questions, and ask them to write something simple in chat: their city, a bet on the outcome of the round. Comments and likes are exactly the signals the system uses to decide whether to show the stream further. Appoint a moderator from your regulars and turn on the word filter so chat does not turn into spam.

Battles and Multi-Guest: how to get someone else's audience

A joint stream is the fastest free way to show yourself to new people: you appear on screen in front of another creator's viewers, and they appear in front of yours.

Battle (LIVE Match). Two creators connect their streams and compete over who collects more gifts in a round. According to Dexerto, a round lasts 5 minutes. Battles work well for retention: viewers get excitement and a clear goal. How to start a battle and invite an opponent was covered in our article on battles in TikTok LIVE.

Multi-Guest. The host invites guests into their stream, and their windows are shown in a grid or a panel. In 2022 TikTok announced a mode for up to 5 guests at once. It is handy for podcasts, discussions, playing together, and breakdowns.

  • Look for partners of your size or slightly bigger: next to a huge creator you will drown, and with a very small one you will not get an audience.
  • Choose creators from a neighboring niche: viewers of one shooter are interested in another shooter, but not in cooking.
  • Agree on the time and format in advance: both of you must be live at the same moment.
  • Remember that you are responsible for the guests in your stream: their violations hit your account too.

Promote: can you pay to boost a LIVE

Yes. Promote is a built-in ad tool in the app, and the official TikTok help states directly that it promotes both videos and LIVEs. For a LIVE there is a goal called "more views and followers in LIVE".

ParameterWhat is known
Age18+ (official)
Followers to promote a LIVEAt least 1,000 (official)
Where to turn it onBefore the stream, the Promote icon above the button that starts LIVE; during the stream, in the Share menu
Minimum Promote budgetThe TikTok help does not state a figure; Sprout Social says from $3 per day
Minimum in TikTok Ads ManagerCampaign daily budget above $50, ad group above $20 (official)

You can choose a ready-made package with a set budget, duration, and audience, or set up the promotion manually.

Spark Ads is a format in the ad account where your regular post becomes the ad. All views, likes, comments, and follows gained through the ad are credited to the original post. Someone else's video can be promoted only with the author's permission via an authorization code. For a streamer, it is a way to boost a successful clip that will then bring people to the stream.

Clips and short videos as an entrance to the stream

Short videos bring more people into LIVE than it seems. While your stream is on, viewers of your videos see that you are live. A new follower who came from a viral video will get a notification about your next stream.

  • Save your recordings: in the settings there is a LIVE Replay section where you can rewatch and download a recording of the stream. According to media reports, a recording is kept for 90 days and then deleted if you do not download it.
  • Cut 15-60 seconds of the best moments from the recording: a battle win, a funny reaction, a chat line.
  • Publish a clip a few hours before the next stream and say in the description when you go live.
  • Make an announcement as a short video with a LIVE Event so people can sign up for it.

While you have few viewers, you can help a stream with a starting audience: we offer the service TikTok viewers and other services for TikTok promotion. Use them in moderation and in addition to content: artificial boosting violates TikTok rules, which prohibit artificial growth of engagement, and a sharp jump in numbers without a live chat looks suspicious and does nothing for retention.

If you are in Russia

According to media reports as of 2026, with a Russian IP address you cannot host or watch live streams in the official TikTok app, or upload new videos. The restriction was introduced by TikTok itself in 2022, and there is no timeline for its return. Everything described above applies to creators who live and stream in countries where LIVE is available. If you are in Russia, it is more sensible to build your streams on platforms that are available: Twitch, YouTube, VK Video Live, Kick.

Frequently asked questions
